A certain insurance company are a pain in the whatsit
Discussion
A certain insurance company based in wales are such hard work when it comes to changes in policy!
I am trying to change cars on my policy and as usual, I double check on their website prior to making the purchase. For the last few years I have changed cars mid policy and used this as a guide / tool to ensure I am not getting ripped off.
Much to my surprise and delight, the policy on the new car works out cheaper, if a new policy was being taken out.
Great I thought, perhaps some pocket change when I swap the cars over – policy runs out in 6 months.
So, I come to ring them and the kind gent on the phone explains that there will be an admin fee (fine, I can live with that).
He then proceeds to explain that the new car will cost more to insure, by £150!
I then explained that I had obtained two quotes on their website to verify that based upon their system, the annual premium is actually a less for the new car if I was a new customer.
Computer says no for him, he won't budge.
I asked for a manager to call me back...
Any advice?

Did the quote you got on the net give you a reference number?
I`d try it again, save it and then when (if?) the manager calls get him to look on the system at the quote and try to get him to explain the difference.
As long as all the details are correct, I`d have thought it would be quite simple for them to rectify.

Anyway, Admiral have been pretty good over the years so why change?
I received a letter in the post from
today with an outrageous renewal quote for my Focus. I told them I was getting rid of it, and that I had bought a Mazda MX-5 which I'm about to buy insurance for it. I passed them the reg number, expecting the same reply as I got last September when I went to look at an MX-5.
"Sorry, we can't offer you a quote on that unless you've over thirty".
I told them I'm not surprised they went bust, doing business in such a way when other insurers will ring me offering me a price (£400 cheaper than
renewal quote on my Focus I might add). Mind you, the woman on the phone couldn't give me a good answer for this strange policy of theirs. If I were asking for insurance on a TVR from them, I could perhaps understand. Before going and getting insurance somewhere else.
ETA
Please remember the sites no Naming and Shaming policy.

I have recently had a similar problem. Called my insurer before I purchased to ensure I could insure and was quoted £30 increase to change. Purchased the car, tried to change the insurance and was told I needed to be over 30 to insure! Anyway a long dispute ensued and I was finally charged £100 for the remaining two months until the policy expires. In the grand scheme of things £100 isn't much it's just the hassle involved.
