4 owners in 5 years, is this a bad sign?

I'm currently looking for a Clio 182 and spending around 5k. The car in question has covered 50k miles and has FSH including cam belt change.

Should I be worried that it's already had 4 owners in such a short time?

I'm not planning on keeping the car for a long time so will this have a big affect on re-sale?

I had a clio for 3 years! from 17 to 20!

wouldn't bother me at all, my last 3 cars I've owned less than a year and my current car I only intend to keep for a year so 4 owners in 5 years would be fine with me.

Dealers dont register the car when they take it as p/ex, only if they run it as a demonstrator is it registered...

They might not know and as pointed out above if it wasn't a demo then it won't have been registered at a dealer.

If the car is in good condition, with FSH and regular servicing then it wouldn't bother me.

I've often pondered this. If there are a few owners, surely it means that it may have had more love than if it was a 1 owner vehicle. I know when I get a used car I spend a bit on it servicing and titivating...

Hot hatches can change hands quickly, I wouldn't be too worried however, £5k on a 182 is pretty much top money. So don't settle for 2nd best.

I may be in the minority but it would put me off. It might be fine, but then again it could be a real dog full of untraceable glitches. There are plenty of Clios about, so if it was me, I would find another.

Yeah, true I'm just always a bit worried they got rid of it for a reason (apart from it being French and a Clio)

I'm looking at a black one, it looks very tidy to be honest. It's actually up for £4,500 which seems reasonable as it has the cup suspension and spoilers.

My TVR had had 5 owners in 5 years when I bought it.
Nothing wrong with the car, low mileage, but it had been used as a second car / Toy and always traded in for something else (3 times to the same garage !!)

13 years later, I still have the car

Cars like that and more extreme cars are well known to change hands regularly. More normal cars don't.

My VX has had 4 owners in 5 years. Its just the nature of the car, sporty/desireable cars do change hands more frequently than runarounds.
