Why is it people hate them? confused
On the way to work this morning I was behind a lad on a Suzuki Bandit and this idiot in a Megane just pulled out right across infront of this bike. The biker had to slam his brakes on to avoid getting smashed by this fcensoreding renault driver. Then the man in the car had the nerve to do a wacensoreder sign to the biker as he rode past him.
There's just no need for it. I've seen it happen many times, people swerving at bikers, getting really close to their rear wheel etc etc.

Don't understand it! It's putting me off learning to ride once I've finished building my bike.

Because they're usually driven so badly that most people are fuming by the time they see a bike, even before the bike has started driving dangerously and erratically all over the place.

There are idiots on the road (pedestrians/cyclists/horse riders/motorcyclists/drivers), avoiding them is a key skill you learn if you use one of the more "vulnerable" forms of transport. You do develop a 6th sense for when someone is about to do something stupid.

Why they do it, who knows? Jealousy that the cyclist/biker can filter perhaps. Maybe they were abused by a bicycle/motorbike as a child. Maybe their mum/partner won't let them have a bike and they take their frustrations out on those who can ride.

That's what I tend to think. There's a certain look of envy as they ride past.

I hate them because I'm jealous they don't stuck in traffic like I do!

That said, the minority (as always) don't help when they weave irresponsibly. Just the other day, I was sat in traffic trying to change lanes with my right indicator on. A space presented itself and I started moving slowly into it only to have some goon force his way past (while I'm indicating and moving right). grumpy

But mostly it's jealousy about the not-being-stuck-in-traffic thing. wink

We're a nation made up mostly of morons who don't like people progressing past them (whether this is in traffic or socially), that's the reason that bicycles and motorbikes suffer on the roads I think.

Even if this is true its still not on to endanger someones life, if they are endangering their own thats down to them. It really pisses me off when people drive dangerously towards bikes, and i dont and have never ridden them!

Its like those idiots who flash their full beam directly at you or speed up when you overtake. What these fking cretins don't think about is that by doing that theres a good chance you will crash and take them with you.

Some pro idiots out there.

I've been riding since 1984 and I reckon that in all that time I've had vanishingly few incidents with "bike haters" - less than 20 at a guess.

I consider the risk of getting crushed to death by a car hating, tailgating trucker on the motorway (an almost everyday occurrence) to be far, far higher for example.

They know that, but it will be your fault (they think) and they will get all the com-pen-say-shuns.

To the OP: There was not hatred from the Megane, he just didn't see the bike then blamed the biker for being dangerous so that he wouldn't lose face.

Ah, the minds of idiots.

Amazingly, like car drivers, there are good motorcyclists and sh*t motorcyclists. The main problem with motorcycles is that when they weave through traffic, they provide no warning and have a habit of giving drivers a heart attack when they appear from nowhere just as you're letting the clutch out planning your next move when "AAAARGH!".

The solution came from a nice Ducati the other morning. Heard it long before I saw it, felt the vibrations as it approached and filtered nicely and he gave a little rev to demonstrate the fact that he was going to accelerate quickly away which of course he did.

Perhaps the worst are the commuter bikes with good initial take-off then nothing who tend to be as annoying as wasps.

Some drivers will also have experienced bikes knocking their door mirrors and watching them buzz off.

Probably better if you put "sometimes", rather than suggest the majority of bikers ride badly.

Or at least make it less specific and say that the majority of road users use the road badly, which I would argue is probably true.
