Don't know how widespread either of these are nationally, firstly the thick freezing fog we've had in the North West of England today and secondly the bloody stupid LED streetlights we have cropping up everywhere round here. mad

Driven home from work tonight in the fog and on the stretches lit by the new LED lights its like driving at a giant sheet of paper, visibilty is zero, get to a bit lit by the old orange lights and visibility increases tenfold. These new ones are dangerous frankly!!!!

Yet another backward step due to people not looking into things properly! nono

Totally agree, im in the north west and these white lights have cropped up near me on some streets and to be honest, although they are brighter, they are much worse. I want lights with some dim, not driving into blindness expecting some 109's to come down on me from 3 o'clock.

Im also pissed off today at the amount of morons driving around with no lights on.

You'd be amazed how much difference a few inches makes (that's what she said). Driving around in the dark in the VX is piss annoying because of the amount of incorrectly adjusted lights. New E and S classes seem to be the worst, I occasionally wear sunglasses if I'm going on a dark country road as my eyes can't adjust that quick between getting dazzled and trying to find the verge with the VX's piss awful standard lights.

Personally I blame the new dashboards that are constantly backlit. Ones that only light up when you have your lights on mean you both realise that you're driving like a numpty, and you can't see how fast you're going.

In connection with your problem with lights, nothing makes me rage more than these fkers;

Interestingly the Audi lights never seemed to worry me in the VX - in fact, they were slightly more bearable. Maybe they're angled slightly upwards than others? Perhaps it's the adjusting/weighing of the cars. I remember posting a rant after getting really blinded by a DS3, only when it went past did I notice it had 3 of the biggest girls in the back (and the suspension must have been squashed on its bump stops).

The LED ones probably cost a fraction of the orange ones to run but I genuinely couldn't see a thing tonight until I got on the old orange roads. Scary!

hi all,
i work for southern electric down in hampshire on the pfi for the streetlight replacement programme.

i dont know if were doing the same lanterns down here but they are white light from flourescent lamps.
it is a money saving exercise as the bulb in a 6mtr column is now 36watt rather than the old 70watt bulbs but ive seen these at nite and they cast a more widespread beam allowing for less columns in a road&dont create as many shadows for people to hide in.
also they dont cause light pollution (i.e upwards)so you should be able to see the stars in towns once the've replaced them all lol.

weve been told down here that they will be able to dimm certain lanterns if you complain its too bright outside your house but thats not coming in yet.
