You know the set up, luxury/sports cars on display at airports and the like. You buy a raffle ticket for £50 or whatever for a chance of winning one of the cars.

Anyone ever had a punt on this, or even know someone who has won?

there was a thread a while back i think in the Owners cars forum where a guy had entered a competition, can't remember where, and had just gone to collect a new Cayman S from the affiliated Dealer. I think he had paid to get a few extra goddies on it too. He was really really made up, obviously.

I remember this, seemed genuine.

Once I found out it was a "spot the ball" type affair I lost interest.

If it was a genuine raffle I would have given it a go.

There was, he had photo's of him picking it up and shaking hands with the competition people etc. IIRC, he had an option of going for a brand spanking new Cayman S or he could go for a demonstrator and spend the price difference (Couple of grand I think) on upgrading it, so got new alloys and upgraded stereo etc.

They seem like a pretty fair outfit to be honest. The spot the ball thing did put me off too, but they do 2 lots of tickets now, £10 for something like a Cayman or £20 for 599's, Gallardo's etc.

I remember as a kid watching a show with Esther Rancid who investigated the case of a guy, a printer I think, who asked the company running the competition to what accuracy the 'X' had to be in relation to the centre of the ball. Whatever it was he had a rubber stamp of 100 'X's made up, they were spaced closely enough to guarantee a hit. He then spent a fair bit of money covering the picture with the stamp and still didn't win.

Only three of the winners in the history of Best of the Best have been online players. The rest from airports. According to one of their own Salespeople. However he may well of been lying to get me to buy a ticket there and then

Otherwise seem genuine.

There are legal reasons why they have to have a spot the ball competition. A straight raffle would not have been possible under the present gambling regulations

Totally genuine company, AlunR off here won the Sportscar competition, and another PH Lurker won it in November too.

I'm not totally unbiased as I do their motoring blog for them (see profile) along with some of their web graphics, but they really are a very genuine company.

it is kind of a lottery because the person who gets closet to the guess made by the adjudicator on where the ball is wins.

so someone will definitley win, unlike the national lottery where nobody wins most of the time.

having said that i feel its a mugs game and not for me.
