adding you parents as named drivers can help

Play around with voluntry excess ammounts on comparison websites to see how the premium is affected

Add a limited milage? rather than going for unlimited say youll do 6 or 7,000 a year and that can help bring it down

Whack the excess way, way up. If the insurance premium comes down more than the excess went up, you've won.

Find something a bit less 'first car' than a fiesta. Anything that is used by young drivers has a loaded insurance premium because of the way that car type is viewed as a risk.

It wouldn't shock me to find something like a 1.8 mondeo was cheaper or as cheap to insure.

£5000???? are you joking?!

put the car value low as even if you do have an accident they don't pay out a lot, what have you found now?

Mines £500 3rd p f&t 17 just passed on a 1.1 citroen ax.

That name kind of gives you an advantage. Being a girl makes insurance much cheaper. My OH being a named driver reduces any quote for me by 100 or more, despite my 14 years driving to her 1.

I thought you meant being called Hannah XXX, but I'd imagine that type of occupation would be frowned upon by insurers. getmecoat

I appreciate you're female, but I'm suspiscious of this £500 quote - are you simply insured on your parent's policy (fronting)?

I'm an 18 year old male (only passed a few months ago though) and it's costing me £2000 for 10 months on a 1.0 Corsa (hehe)! I can't believe there is that much of a price difference through gender, even with allowance for model.

Edited for shoddy grammar.

I'm 18 and my citroen C2 1.1 is £1900 to insure but my sister has a mini one 1.6 and she is 17 and it costs £900 to insure! It's a joke.

The value of the car has very little bearing on the cost of the premium or any payout in the event of a claim. You could be driving a £150 car and collide with someones £150,000 Bentley, then plough into a bus queue full of little children, nuns & main breadwinners. Imagine the cost implication there...

insure it in your mum or dads name with you as a named driver. Dont mod the car and dont crash. Do that for a year or 2, by then your insurance will be cheaper

I know how it feels, I'm in the same boat. I would go and take my test, but I know that I can't afford insurance once I pass so I'm stuck on my provisional licence for the forseeable future. frown

However,

Do NOT even think about doing this. It is a form of insurance fraud called fronting and insurers are cracking down on it. If you make a claim on a policy that an insurer believes to be fronted, they will cancel the policy leaving you facing the third party costs, 6 points and a meaty fine for driving w/o insurance and a cancelled policy which will ruin your chances of of getting cheap insurance at a later date; it just isn't worth it. You don't build up any no claims either.

You would be surprised, and quite angry, if I have a sex change it knocks my £2800 bill down to £480!!
