Not another what car thread, but a what tyres thread!!!

I'm reviving the Volvo S40 which needs some tyres (205/55 R16 V)

Cost is a factor, but also need to be hard wearing and grippy.

Suggestions with links and prices much appreciated!

As it's now spring and my winter tyres are worn out, no Winter Tyres please!

My wife's Mazda 3 has Falken ZE912 in this size and it seems a good tyre.

Alternatively, Kumhos are very good value

Thanks for those Gary!

What does anyone think to the following?

Pirelli P 6000
Dunlop SP SPORT 01
Dunlop SP Sport Fast Response

Avoid the P6000, shockingly bad tyre.

Anything else Conti, Bridgestone, Goodyear etc will be spot on.

The Falken should be sensible money & fine for a Volvo, I have the 452 on the Jag & they're great.

Another vote here for the Kumhos - good value for money.

Ive got the 452 on my Volvo S80. They are pretty good in all weathers.

I put Maxxis tyres on our Grand Voyager and they are awesome. Quiet and hold the road well.

If they do them in your size i find the Pirelli P Zero Nero a very good value for money tire.

BF Goodrich G-Grips are well worth a look, we have sold lots of these over the last few months with very good feed back from our customers, I had them on my old diesel golf and found them to excellent, would have them on my current car but the don't make them in run flat form unfortunately

+1 for avoiding Pirelli like the plague

Eagle F1s are always a good bet and some good deals to be had on them at the moment, also Avon ZZ3 worth a look too

I have found the Vredestein Sportrac 3 to be an excellent tyre, they're absolutely fantastic in the wet and they're very reasonably priced. An excellent tyre for the money and if you have a look at the autoexpress tyre tests it scores well, although they didn't test it in the most recent one.

After several years of running SP Sport 01's, bought a pair of Fast Responses and can vouch for them.

They provided noticeably more grip and are more responsive than the Sport 01's so recommended from me.

Don't get Wanlis frown I've got on the ZR at the moment as needed tyres all round, and being 17, and having 205/45/17 tyres, means good ones are expencive. They coped very well with snow, okay in damp, do the job in the dry and haven't been in heavy rain yet. Not looking forward to it. Can't wait until I can get some better rubber on there.
