Google and PH search can't give a definitive answer so I would be interested to know whether Australian numberplates can be imported and fitted to British registered cars.
Thanks
Bob

I might be wrong, but I don't think this is possible

If you don't already know, there are massive difference in registration rules between states so it might depend on which state's plate you're after.

WA and SA are a bit more relaxed than NSW and QLD, for example.

You mean to replace a UK licence then no.

To get a licence plate made is pretty strict over there. When I was living in OZ I had to get new plates made for my van and it was a faff. Saying that it meant I got to keep the old plates which I now have as a memento.

You can buy the plates just not from the area gov tho.

I bought some victoria plates from a ute from a scrap yard and they sent them over.

I only wanted them as show plates for the ute tho and not to use over here as its main registration as your asking for a lot of trouble doing that.

Aussie plates would be as illegal as those ones with stupid fonts on that chavs used to use. Or in fact the German style plates that lots in the "Dub Scene" now use.

Ok thanks chaps, to elaborate a bit, my brother-in-law has the Victorian plate HIS FUN on his 1967 Mini Cooper, i don't think it's by chance as i believe H15 FUN was on the orginal Mini Cooper (not a 100% sure this is true, but it certainly has some relevance). Would have looked nice on my TVR, or sat as a large deposit in my bank account biggrin

It's simple, Australian plates are legit on Australian registered vehicles, British plates are legit on British vehicles. A British car will be registered with the DVLA in Swansea or the DVLNI if it is Northern Irish. Outside of its country of origin not attached to a vehicle or registered to a vehicle a number plate is nothing but a decorative item.
