Insurance renewal - Another case of highway robbery
Discussion
It's insurance renewal time! Oh No.
I have had a quote through and looked around. The best I have come up with so far is 750 pounds for a year's comprehensive cover with a few other benefits.
The car in question is a BMW 318iS coupe. It's an E36 model, 1995 vintage and worth not a lot. It's not very fast either; fun to drive but not very fast.
What is slightly upsetting, though, is the fact that I'm 23; a home-owner; in a responsible job and will be parking the car in a private courtyard in one of the lowest risk areas in th country. I've checked!
In addition I have had no convictions; have been driving for six years and have 5 years' NCB. I have one non-fault claim on my record - for a car running into mine whilst it was parked and I wasn't there!
It deosn't seem fair!

Add some named drivers like your mum or dad etc.
I had a quote for 1400 from admiral for my grande punto sporting then got it down to 820 fully comp, by putting my mum and dad as named drivers.
Im 21 with 1 ncb and a driving ban.
yours should be much cheaper!

I agree with adding a named drive. I'm 32, drive a diesel estate which is parked on the drive and adding the girlfriend on knocks over £100 off the yearly premium.
The irony is that she finds the car too big, hates reversing it in to the driveway and is generally scared of driving it. Yet by allowing her to drive it the insurance company view it as less of a risk!?

My renewal arrived on Friday.
Last year was £625 to £930 this year, a 49% rise. Yes, almost FIFTY percent, circumstance identical, only with one more year NCB.
It's true about the female aspect; I owned a group 6 Grande Punto Sporting and when I bought the GTI two years ago, I added SWMBO to the insurance and I ended up paying the same with her on the GTI as me on my own in the Punto...
She never drives the GTI - 'too big' and 'uses too much petrol' - but adding her to the premium reduced it by about £250-300 annually...
