I have just seen one that has popped up in the classifieds and remembered just how much I love these things. I have a green 2002 Turbo on GT5 and its one of my favorite cars to drive.

How much do these things cost? Do they come up for sale often? This one is an eye watering $88,000 is this standard for a 2002 Turbo?:

Also absolutely love these.
I've seen decent ones advertised recently for around £30k.

2002 turbos are rare as rocking horse poop hence the value, 1602 models are pretty good value.

1600 or so were made and they were pretty damn fast back then, 6.9 to 60 and a 130mph top end.

Turbos are rare and command +++money.

I'd be looking at a regular 2002 (carb) or the 2002tii (fuel injection).

Earlier models have lots of chrome and round rear lights, later models have less chrome and square rear lights.

Very very cool (imo).

The reason the turbos are commanding this money is down to one thing... the one person who is seen as the "god" of 2002 here in the UK happened to want to sell his Turbo. He then decides to sell it for under 30k so now every fecker on the planet decides to flog at the same price.. going from 7-8k to 25+ overnight more or less.

Its not a rare car in that respect.. the Touring models even more rare and the 2002ti even more so. The touring model in RHD was only buildt in limited numbers yet is only worth a fraction of the turbo.

The turbo is not worth the moneys its commanding IMHO.

Iirc, it did basically have a complete restoration down to the nuts and bolts. In addition (I may be wrong) the turbo has been changed to a non original item to increase reliability.

They certainly won't fall.

Are you planning to have the car as a weekender or daily drive?

As soon as you hear people start to say that you know for sure that prices will drop like a stone!

2002 is simply a very old 3-series and it's difficult to see any fundamantal reason for them to become/remain a collector's item.

This subject brings back bad memories for me. I had a 2002 back in 1982, lovely thing in bright orange with black trim. My wife at the time & I had a huge row & we split up, & I borrowed a transit van to take all my gear away, saying I would return for my car. When I did, a couple of days later, she had given my car to her brother in law to sell, (he was manager of a local VAG) & it was gone.

Wouldnt that make the Turbo the first ever hot BMW salloon then? Hot BMW's are certainly collectors items...

Neither now lol. In seriousness I wouldnt have minded a garage queen if they were retailing at £5-10k, Possibly a shabby car which could have been restored.

2002 are a cult car in Germany. You gotta remember that back in the day, the 2002 was killing almost everything on the tracks in Germany.. in the same vein as the Escorts here in the UK. Germany were never really a Ford country back then in the same way BMW never really got popular back then in the UK either

Hence the reason why the escort is gaining price in collectors world, the 2002 is follwing suit. Also they are both quite potent cars (in race/rally guise)

Are you sure? I thought price guidance for 2002 Turbos has been at least £20k for maybe 5-8 years.

I should think they'll remain at an elevated price like all homologation models do.

At the end of the day it is, like everything else, very much down to the "market" and markets tend to change over time.

Real value generally comes from "provenance". Race wins, famous owners etc.

Oh you didnt just mention a turbocharged sporty BMW on here!?

According to most threads about BMW making a turbocharged M car, it is heresy against BMWs traditions and BMWs must be N/A to be sporty.

If you get one can I get a go?

I like them in colours other than white too...

No. The first hot BMW saloon was the 1800Tisa (not sold over here) But the 1800Ti was pretty good. It would do 90 in 3rd no probs. Then if you look at larger saloons, my favourite was the 3.0si. Predated the 2002turbo, 130mph 4 door. Blow the socks off most anything at the time. Anyone know where KKK200L ended up?
