I was told by McLaren's representative on their stand at Autosport International that the MP4-12C has just been timed around the Top Gear track and it was quicker than a Veyron SS, can anybody confirm this?

Sounds possible. The Veyron is hardly in its element on a tight track.

Wouldn't be surprised. The Veyron is a bit of a one trick pony.

Wouldn't surprise me if it was, but have they had a Veyron SS round it? I know they've had the 'normal' Veyron. Has the Ferrari 458 done a lap too?

I don't know about the VSS, but I read a rumor that it was 2s faster than the 458 around that track.

Quite possible the MP4-12c looked suitably rapid on the launch trailers at the Goodwood circuit with Hamilton and Button 'not racing'each other I'm eager to find out the official resault now ....... scratchchin

One trick pony?
Amazing top speed
stunning acceleration
exceptional luxery
easy to drive - so they say
current fastest lap on a circuit beating a zonda F and konnizeg fastest version and gumpet track day cars. Still over 10seconds slower than an Aston martin dbr9 in the dry.
Halo product
has opened up dsg to the masses following huge success in this application

Making it road legal and a proper production car which is tested far more than normal road cars as such 250k veyrons shouldn't be a problem at all

good heads up re top gear

This is McLaren's entry level car too. Wait until they bring out the no limits top model!

Possibly. But until McLaren actually PROVE some of these "facts" they've been spouting recently. I'll remain a Skeptical Hippo. Be nice if htey let Evo or Autocar time the car ahead of it's launch too. But that will probably cost them pre-sales....

makes no sense if the SS has beaten all on a small real life top gear track plus a STD bug which wasn't healthy/ driven by it's owner rather than racing driver hence so much slower than SS.

On that bombshell good morning. Just got the game and have the CTR from the late 90's guttless sadly where is the power where is the power oh limiter where is the torque

My ford focus is faster then both.

Up a snow covered farm track.

Because one car is faster then another in one place proves bugger all.

Until the giggle meter is invented numbers say nothing about which car is more fun.

A diesel rep mobile has a higher top speed then a caterham superlight, which would you prefer to drive round a track?

Faster up a snow covered road i'd say veyron with it's 4x4 unless your focus has 4x4 also?

I'm not sure what your getting at I'd say the brutal acceleration would have me wetting myself with enjoyment in the trouser dept, likewise I really get a wiggle on with karting and that's a great experiance, rep mobile tdi overtaking is also a lot of fun using low down torque and real world acceleration vs over speed limit acceleration of equivalent powered petrol cars, i'd also say I had a huge amount of fun getting the back wheel off the ground cornering in a ride on mower my dad had when I was younger.
Strimming is also very pleasing that super high rev 2stroke lovely.

Making a Sunday roast is pretty good too
