I was working on a 07 passat on friday car already on ramp and was told the back pads need replacing last job of the day so took the calliper of removed the pads and noticed the electric motor on the back of the calliper hence electric handbrake. Went to one of the guys in work to say about how to wind back the piston, he turns around and says via the computer. Know this is the first time ive heared of this so went on to autodiagnose website to how to relaease, the car has to be on the ground oh fk put the calliper back on, wheels on back on the ground went through the sequence and finnished the job. So this means the end of working on your own cars even to do your braks. I hate electric handbrake never understund why you would want them. so what other things on cars you really dont need and would cars be even more fuel efficent if it didnt have a mass of electronic crap on it like heated fking seats.

That there is why I'm going to try and stay driving early noughties at the newest.
Can you imagine the Kwikfit fitter on that car with his mallet in 5 years time when it's had time to filter down out of the main dealer network?

Can be exceptionally cool in the right car.

I'm completely against electric handbrakes, and traction control that cannot be completely turned off. Great to leave on day to day but if we want to risk "crashing due to decreased traction and stability" then for fks sake just bloody let us!

Reverse parking sensors and cameras

Why are they needed. We could park cars before no?

Oh and any form of TV for obvious reasons

Captive bolt assemblies made of paperclip-like metal, that disintegrate the second you get a socket near them. Penny pinching (usually french) bastaads!

Electric steering locks on BMWs.

The current 7 series is so smart (or too smart for it's own good...) that it needs to be programmed if you change the battery.

Newer cars have much poorer visibility than older ones.

Electric non-memory seats. If I wanted something extremely heavy and asthmatically slow to move my seats, I'd use a fat bloke.

Sat navs,
Mobile phones,

Millions of buttons,

In fact, anything that distracts the driver from driving.

Out of curiousity, you say reverse parking sensors - do you not object to front parking sensors? As shirley its easier to see where the front of your car is compared to the rear?

For the record I like my rear parking sensors smile

ABS on the Ferrari F355... it cuts in far too early!

Luckily its pre-traction control though, so saves me having to press the 'off' button when I fire her up! wink
