car finance experts needed

I should be selling a car to a bloke I do not know but have spoken to. Buyer lives far away and will be coming to buy in one visit.
He is planning to arrange finance to buy the car (secured on the car I think) and has requested the VIN number,
Registration number and the date of registration as apparently the finance company will need this info.
OK, here’s my question: Will the buyer be able to raise finance against my car, take the money and run leaving a loan secured on my car with me in the firing line? I always buy cars outright and have no experience of finance.
