This is a cry for help!

My CLK 320 cdi Avantgarde (auto) has been SORN and in my garage for a couple of months, have been starting it up etc and today got it out, no problem. Went to put it back in garage and now has the ABS and Engine Management lights on, as well as saying the ESP is disabled and runflat indicators not available. Weird enough but I also cant shift out of park on the auto box, foot down on brake as usual but the bugger won't move. Have tried disconnecting the battery and getting rid of the charge in the system but no joy.

Does anyone have any ideas if there is a way to override this or some way to reset the fault? I don't think there is necessarily anything wrong with the car per se as it was fine this lunchtime but not over the moon about having it (uninsured) on the drive.

Sorry to bump, but no ideas anyone?

ETA: Just been out to it again, the engine management light is now off, just the ABS light still on. Still cant engage gear.

They like very healthy batteries so make sure you have one. Also don't jump start it as they don't get on with jump starts. Is the battery fully charged?

If the battery was flat then chances are you will need to just clear the codes. For the trans check the brake light switch is working as it releases a solenoid to allow the lever to come out of park.

Have you tried lifting up the gear gaiter and dis engaging the shift lock? Also what sort of noise does the motor make when you put the key in? Mine is usually a small chirp but it turned into a long slow noise and now it is stuck in Park. I've been told its the motor behind the dashboard

This may well be an issue, has been in garage for 2 months+, while it seems to start ok the battery won't be full charge or anywhere near. Will leaving it at idle (as it won't move) put much charge into the battery to get it moving or is it a battery charger job?

If you are close to camberley, I would offer to pop over with mine - failing that you can buy the kit off ebay for less than £40. Its always a useful thing to have these days.

Battery wasn't flat at any point but may have been close, the brake light switch works in as much as the brake lights still work.

Mine does the chirp ok, will have to try the first part. Thanks for the advice.

Cheers for the offer, much appreciated. Unfortunately I'm 150 miles odd away, will certainly look into getting one for the future though after this mystery.

Thanks again.

I left my Jag for about 6 weeks and the battery lost quite a lot of charge and one by one things stopped working until it wouldn't start at all.

Plugging in one of these for a few hours did the trick:

Running it won't really help the battery if it's already weak which I suspect it maybe. I would try charging the battery fully before attaching a diagnostic reader in.
