As it says.... 968CS on 1994 L at £4000 with 2d left. Bit of a steal?

"INSURANCE CATEGORY C" and:

"The bottom edge of the windscreen below the tax disc has minor damage (see pic). It has had some paintwork and some may argue it may need more, dependent on your expectations of the car - there is minor underpaint bubbling on the seam that joins the rear quarter and boot panel. There is a panel gap between the bonnet and passenger front wing/door. The rubber seals between the rear bumper and quarter panel have shrunk and could do with replacing. The car is not mint by any means"

Cat C won't help it but if it stays low then it's still a deal

(dependent of how well repaired/looked after etc it is)

  • ahem* I posted too soon. I should have read the advert properly first. Not meaning to mislead anyone, I just got a bit excited and thought that it may be a bit of a bargain.

It was a Cat C and has no MOT. You'll need to be a bit brave - it also might go for a lot more than it's on at the moment too.

plus the seller doesn't have the V5 or evidence of it being VIC checked post accident. I wouldn't touch it with a stty stick.

How badly twisted out of shape is that?!

The headlamps are all out of alignment with the wings and even the fuel cap won't close, it's that badly distorted.

At £4k it's about £3k overpriced, surely?

Sounds like it got bent in 1998 - so a fair portion of that 80k miles has been done post-off.
Fuel filler might just not be shut properly.
If the history checks out with Porsche, it might not be too bad.

No roll cage? I thought the CS package included a half cage?

Fuel filler is fine they all do that unless adjusted to death. I think this car has done the rounds before, I'm not sure it was this dealer. I'd certainly get an inspection done as the dealer sells a lot of cars like this.
If it was bent in 98 then it won't have a marked V5 & will not have needed a VIC as they are comparatively recent.

TBH the lighting on the shiny car is so contrasty not sure it would be possible to check panel gaps using the pics. The headlights could just be adjustment but if it was smacked in 98 it will have had loads of MOTS which will have checked the alignment. Oh & no 968 had a cage as standard part or full. It'd break for 4K so decent money.

I'm sure that's still very twisted around the front - the bonnet / bumper are out of alignment, as well as the dodgy looking headlamps - which may well align for an MOT when they're 'popped up', but still don't sit right when retracted.

Can't understand why any dealer would present a car so badly - and their 'confusion' story smacks of someone who tried to fob it off as no recorded and were caught out by a seller running their own HPI check.

Plus it looks v. jacked up at the rear end. Despite stating it has M030 package....

I'm oot.

Whats with the camber? Unless its been used as a drift car, its got a good degree-or-so of front camber, and nothing on the rear, which is a bit odd for a RWDer?

I've raced a hell of a lot worse looking stuff than that!

At 4k it's a deal. Body etc is not that important so long as the turrets are pretty much straight. If the motor and box are good it's still pretty cheap as these can be horribly expensive is they go bang.

I expect it will go for over £5k.

You'd need to go in to that with your eyes open IMO.

At the right price maybe, but "bargain", er no I'm not sure.

This pic: either the geometry is off or there's something not right with the ride heights. Just looks wrong.

Google some other pics of 968CS's and you'll see they don't all sit like that..

That is an absolute bargain for someone subject to driving it first to make sure it drives well.

You will have to pay £15k for a really good club sport.

It was damaged over 12 yrs ago and has lots of history so it sounds like it should be a decent car, you have to remember that a relatively small amount of damage on these will result in the insurance co' writing it off.

And these guys sell a lot of older 944/968 they will know if its a decent example or not.

That's twisted beyond fixing, surely?

Unless you have very large gonads and access to a bloody good jig, it'll never drive straight again.

why is the back wheel straight and the front has some massive camber on it?

(think camber is the word for pointing inwards and wearing out the inside of the tyre)

Well, it's not uncommon to run -ve camber, especially on the front if you're into track days.

But that just looks really iffy to me.

If it's adjustable suspension, I suppose it could have been set up by a muppet going for a Whacky Racers look, but it looks more like a severely twisted floor to me.
