Need a replacement 4x4. Hummer H2 or Cadi Escalade?
Discussion
I acquired a 4.0 '98 Ford Explorer last year for tip runs and snow driving.
Cost peanuts to buy. Anyway, I've fallen in love!. Had an ML Merc years ago but absolutely love this Ford; I think it's 'cause I've never had a big petrol engined wagon before. Even though it's a V6, the engine note makes me giggle as I burble around the carpark at home.
Despite its ludicrous mpg, I have started using it for day-to-day general city centre pootling. So, I think I should replace it with something considerably more luxurious. Or something ridiculous.
I like American cars a great deal, so I reckon it boils down to the two big fellas in the title. The Cadi is a little silly yet pretty luxurious. The H2 is not so luxurious yet very very silly. I'll be looking to spend about £15K ish so I should be able to get one of either in good nick.
Pros? Cons? Any advice for aiding the hunt?
Cheers!

Escalade gets my vote. Would advise you to think about stumping up an extra 5k or so to go for the far superior newer model (much better interior, better looking, better ride), if you could stretch that far? Engine is bullet-proof. Looked at the Hummer too and found it just too agricultural for me. Plus interior room was minimal for a car that size.

Not sure I want to spend so much on what is ultimately a plaything. Is it really that much better? How shall I spin it to the Mrs in a "we'll SAVE money in the long run" A friend of mine had an H2. The interior was very low rent. I think it adds to the charm in many ways.

Of the two, would get the Caddy, you will look an absolute helmet driving around in a Hummer...
Surely a Range Rover would give more luxury? Or a Lexus RX?
They're way too boring. I want a toy really. The Mrs wants a RR in the summer anyhow.Surely a Range Rover would give more luxury? Or a Lexus RX?
I'm not too fussed about looking a tool; as long as I get the aural stiulation I need
I have had a dodge ram & and now have a h2 the dodge was great covered 250,000 miles with few probs ie gearbox
great pick up NOW for the H2 its on lpg drives very well, they are a bit crap inside but you can buy carbon bits to bring it up to spec! hummers drive nice i looked at 7 before i brought mine look out for oil leaks & steer clear of bigger wheels as they say it knocks out ball joints & bearings & plays up the air suspension
The hummer does it for me

Not 100% sure, but I think the current model has cylinder deactivation, where 4 cylinders are shut down when they're not needed to save fuel. The Suburban (same platform as the Escalade, although smaller engine) I had as a hire car last June had it and that managed about 20 US mpg over the 2 weeks I had it.
Would definitely book another one too if I do another roadtrip, unless the Caddy or a vette is available for about the same money

if you can find one, check out the ZJ series Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9. the sound is blood curdling. all LHD. cool as hell cars. it'll be a lot cheaper than one of those. it's not as showy, or ridiculous, but wonderful nonetheless
I've never even heard of one of these till now.If the sound is as you say, I might need to investigate. What year were these produced?
