Hi folks,

How common are 'mistakes' on the V5 document, e.g. engine capacity.

Specifically, I'm looking at a Toyota Hilux Surf to cart the dogs around in, and I know that for the model year I'm loooing at they came in a 3-litre diesel engine and two petrol versions; 2.7 and 3.4.

However, on the V5 of the car in question, the capacity is listed as a smidgen under 3.6 litres...

It's a Jap import, so possibly a mistake when first registering the car in the UK?

As the title says really... smells a bit 'iffy to me, or am I being paranoid?

Thanks!

Marlon.

Paranoid, in my opinion. From experience many imports have mistakes on the V5. One of my MR2's was, apparently, a five door!!!!

A simple error probably. Don't forget, the DVLA don't have a database for cars that where not originally imported into the UK and things like engine capacity, well they can only go on what the importee puts on the application. Also, don't forget that depending on how spidery the writing was, 3.4 is quite easy to mistake for 3.6.

The only concern I would have is that both petrol engines are know for having to work fairly hard as the car is pretty heavy...and by that, think early to mid teens in urban driving. Diesel is better-pretty bomb proof by all accounts but then if you are not doing many miles and the car is good value, who cares?

Last year I bought a TVR Cerbera "Estate"...just sent back the V5 with the amendments made, they kept it a few weeks and then sent it back all sorted!

My friends Import Integra was registered as a Honda Fireblade despite having 2 too many wheels. Go figure.

I sent off my V5 to change the address of the keeper and when they sent it back with the new address my car had miraculosly changed from being a saloon into a 5 door hatch confused

I really can't be arsed to send it back to them again straight away...
