............ Can it still be done on the same day?

My mate is selling his bike on Tuesday and i want to buy his plate and put it on the OH's car.

Car is in her name.

Can i go to DVLA tomorrow with my mate and get it all done in the same day before he sells his bike on Tuesday?

Can't be done on the same day unfortunately. It'll take around 3-4 weeks for the bike's replacement V5 to be sent out (make sure the buyer is happy with this - and take a photocopy).

As for the retention certificate for the plate you want to buy - this normally takes around 2-3 weeks to be sent out. When you fill out the form, make sure you list yourself as Grantee if you're buying it as this simplifies the process.
