Right then,

Been looking at this http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2010...

I want 2 seats, soft top, decent image, under 50k, under £10k.

Do your worst.

Depends what image you want to portray and who is looking. With any of the cars you've listed though there will be some idiot who will call you for driving it.

Just get whichever you like. I've had some on the list so here's my thoughts;

Boxster - can be expensive if it goes wrong, be ready for an oil patch on your drive regardless.
Z4 - very nice in every way except ride which some find hard, interior doesn't wear well.
MX5 - cheap and it show but lots of fun. You get a great one for £10K, sensible but dull.
350Z - if the image you want to portray is Chav - get this, good car though in many ways.
S2000 - great car, fantastic engine but it looks so Japanese, ignore that and you have a lot of fun.
SLK - not great at anything, not rewarding, glad I only nearly bought one.
TVR - which one? More interesting than anything above but fragile in general terms.

If you really want to enjoy yourself how about an Elise or VX220?

Well it offers similar open air ability.

But there's a full vert available too.

The SLK, for me is more for posing in. SWMBO had one and it's no sportscar (Mk1 model admittedly) but I'd get the newesr one for her as it is quick enough, comfortable, has that nice cosy hard top (feel good factor in winter) and has a premium badge.

The advantage the Z4 and SLK both have (TT too) is that you can get smaller engines. Again, SWMBO tried the Z4 3.0i but bought the 2.0i as it was quick enough and much cheaper to run. Plus, for the money she got a 4000m 2.0i for the same price as a 30,000m 3.0i. Not the same level of kit but not far off either.

A key issue is what you want it for.

It just has to be a TVR, this one's a thousand pounds under budget too.

No one can answer this without knowing what you're going to use it for (not that it'll stop anyone, clearly! biggrin )

I had the same situation and went for a 3 yr old 20K mile MX5 Sport with leather, air, Bose, heated seats etc and it is BRILLIANT! However it was a second "fun" car and ideal for that.

However now my company car has gone (job change) and it's just too noisy for longer trips so unfortunately it's going.

Personally I'm pretty much decided on a SLK, however only if I can stretch to a MK2 version, which is going to be over your budget at the mileage you want.

Z4 doesn't really do it for me, odd looking thing.

Boxster, wonderful until it goes pop without warning or reason and costs you nearly the same as you paid for it to fix it.

So if it's a "fun" car I'd say MX5 as you'll get a lovely low mileage really tidy and (should be) trouble free example for your money.

If you're looking at using it for longer trips you may need to think again.
