Hi Guys

This is my first post. Have been browsing the forum for a few weeks now.

Our Van has been stood for almost 2 years.

Its time to move it and get rid of it as where the yard its currently stored is being sold

Its a mercedes sprinter.

What would i need to do to get the van started?
What other items would need attention before starting it up

Thanks

Check the oil and coolant levels. Start engine.

battery, fuel, and oil change (if you can be bothered...)

You might also decide to drain off any old fuel if the tank is more the 1/4 full.

it will be going on ebay as soon as i can confirm its mileage.

So just basic stuff really.

What about brakes?

With it being a Sprinter, I hope you've not left the handbrake on!

Charge Battery, if it wont start try new fuel. Take it slow around the yard at first to check the brakes and the clutch are operating properly. Should be fine imo

Ideally you would change the brake fluid (like you should every couple of years anyway), but if you're getting rid I would just drive it around the yard a bit and then unseize anything that hasn't freed off by itself.

Slightly off topic, what kind of Sprinter is it and how much £££s are you looking for it?

E mail me if you prefer

I have no idea if it's in gear or not and if handbrake is on or not!

It's a long wheel base high top manual 97/98

I'm in Cardiff vans in Birmingham so making the journey tomorrow!

97/98 so it will likely be a 308,310 or 312d

If it's a 310 or 312d May be interested

Slightly hijacking the topic, but the LWB sprinter has some great memories for me, through work. I love them, their very very unique diesel noise and it was always amazing fun to drive and very reliable.

Easily in my top10 vehicles of all time.

Not keen on the new ones though, only like the ones from about 2002 to about 2007.

If you ever remember the apocalyptic tv series from a few years ago called 'the last train' a character visited his lock-up and dug out a mercedes van that had supposedly sat around for 50 years after a meteorite hit the earth while the cast were all in cryo-sleep. They drove that around for half the series and got into a variety of scrapes, tbh the one in the show looked in better nick than yours smile Glad the old beast is running well though.
