lost docs - who's my insurer?

Can't see to lay me hands on the car insurance docs. Kept the breakdown contact number on my mobile but of course I lost that too recently so now have no way of knowing who the pigging hell to call if/when the old Golf conks out. Any bright ideas on how to find out who I'm insured by? Looked on list of direct debits but no clues there. And yes, I know I'm stupid.

If there is no clue on your bank DD list then perhaps you paid it via credit card or cheque or electronically (web site, transfer from your account via bank web site) via a debit card.

If you know the renewal date (roughly should be fine) call your bank and crdit card company and ask them to tell you if they can see any payments to an insurer around the time you think you would have done this.

Not sure if they can help, but have you tried contacting the MIB? They definitely have the info, but whether they can tell you or not is another matter.

Infact I've just checked, you can pay a small fee on their website and they'll give you the contact details of the insurer of a vehicle:
