What car around 3k similar to a focus?

I'm looking for a new car for about 3k that is similar to a Ford Focus. My family keep telling me that age matters and not to buy an old car but there seem to be some 7-10 year old cars with decent mileage for decent money.

Does anyone have any recommendations for other models I should be looking at or do you think it's daft to be buying a 7-10 year old car?

I've seen an mk1 ST but I would rather a slightly less thirsty one - haven't seen any smaller engine ones near me for less, I did wonder if petrol price has evened the cost of them out a bit.

Eh? A quick search on autotrader with the filter on:
Ford Focus
Less than 7 years old
Less than 100,000 miles
Between £2000 & £3000
returns 253 cars

In fact you can reduce the age band to less than 5 years old and still returns 8 cars.

Your £3000 will definitely get you a newer Focus than 7-10 years old, if you're prepared to look harder and travel a few miles (only looking at cars on your doorstep is a bad idea).

I can't see an issue with car age at all. Just know what you are buying and why.

Remember a 7 year car is still out of warranty and at its prime for bits like suspension bushes to start wearing.

Why not stick two fingers up at them and go out and get a Dolly Sprint or e21 or something!
