According to the sales material next to the SR8 on display at the Autosport show it has the best gearchange outside of F1, according to former F1 driver......

...... Alex Yoong! rofl

Now I'm sure it's a fabulous car but how on earth can someone working in marketing for a company who makes race cars decide that a quote from a driver famous for being not only the first Malaysian in F1, but also the least talented driver since Taki Inoue to grace the top tier of motorsport will help to sell their product?!

In fact, they even repeat the statement on their website

http://www.radicalsportscars.com/uk/showroom/radic...

In other news, Le Manoir claim their restaurant has the best napkin rings in the UK, according to former Ask pizza maker Jamie from Oxford hehe

8 retirements, 3 DNQs and the 7th place you mention was out of the 7 cars which finished the race, and 3 laps down, with his next best finish being 10th (out of 10 finishers).....

In the same way you can't discredit a driver with one bad result, you certainly can't rate one for having just one good result!

Actually, if you believe Wikipedia he never finished an F1 race anywhere other than last place, with the possible exception of his 7th place in Australia in 2002 where Pedro DLR was classified behind him (5 laps down) after he limped a sick Jaguar home.

That still puts him ahead of many drivers, there are some that have never qualified and there are many more that have never finished too.

Not entirely sure how you can be worse than finishing last in every single F1 race you ever managed to finish (and qualify for) but I guess he never managed to get run over by a marshalls car so has one over Mr Inoue.

Are you the head of marketing for Radical Cars? If so please can I apply for your job tongue out

The ones who never qualified for a race were usually down to the car being an F3000 car gently warmed over by a lightly trained gibbon. In the case of Alex Yoong he teammate actually managed to score points in the same car, as well as a couple of top ten finishes and no 'DNQs' due to being outside the 107% rule.

He is better placed than 99.99995% of the planet to compare it to an F1 gearchange. Since he presumably has at least changed gear in F1, unlike the OP who could perhaps only compare it to his joypad....??

Ouch!

I guess he has driven the dizzy heights of the 2002 Minardi Asiatech, while my experience is limited to a Lotus Elise and assorted Minis...

I wasn't comparing (legendary pay-driver) Alex Yoong to my own experience, merely the fact that as someone working in auto industry and occasional motorsport marketing I wouldn't be associating my brand with someone who makes Luca Badoer and Kazuki Nakajima look like Ayrton Senna and Lewis Hamilton tongue out

Next time I'm in the market for an F1 derived roadster, I'll make sure some-one better than Alex Yoong has test driven it. What a looser he must feel now eh?

EDIT: not directed at you cheadle just in general

the OP has a point.
i am no marketeer but... it seems a waste of time.
it's like saying "these knives are the best knives i have ever knifed with" james martin vs.
"these knives are the best knives i have ever knifed with" feran adria

it's damning with faint praise!

So you're the last person we should be listening to regarding quality gearchanges!

If, however, there was a need for a comment about making porridge, you'd be up there with Goldilocks. biggrin
