I think the answer is 'no' but thought I'd check.

Last time I was out I heard a stone hit but didn't see anything as the impact was on the black surround. Today I went to the car and there was a 4-5" horizontal crack from the A-pillar.

And of course I had a new windscreen fitted a few months ago... doubtless any guarantee doesn't count.

Cab anything be done or shall I just let it grow until MOT time and then fix it?

it can be drilled to stop it cracking any further but the crack will still be there, just not grow!

You'll have to change yoyr windscreen. If you are not planning to do it right away you can stop a crack developing further by drilling at the crack's end. Obviously you shouldn't drill through.

That's interesting; I happen to have a diamond dental burr in my toybox...

How deep/wide should I go for best results please?

Thanks!

Can a crack physically be repaired = YES

Can someone working to BS AU 242a:1998 carry out a repair on a crack longer than 40mm = NO

Thanks for the info.

Think of it as two 40mm cracks in line... wink

Any suggestions who I could call to get it fixed?

Meantime I have nothing to lose so may as well set about it with the drill before the next trip.

Sorry no smile

All the big companies work to BS242 and pretty much all of the independents will too.

My post was more a can it be done, yes. Will you be able to get it done, no type post.

Yep, I understand that it is indeed possible, but that rules and regs make it 'impossible'. Such is the state of human progress in the 21st century. (Why fix it when you can throw it away, make carbon dioxide producing a new one and then pay £70?)

Right, as I don't have the technology to repair the crack I'm going to try to stop the crack from spreading with a diamond drill. If you or anyone can advise me on depth/width of hole and whether to go in from both sides or just one I'd be grateful.

PMs happily received if respondents prefer to avoid the spotlight. Thanks!
