One of the guys here bought an A6 Avant a few months back from a well know London Car supermarket. He has just discovered when looking at needing to replace 2 front tyres in a while that the tyres fitted are all the wrong load rating - 94 rather than 97. Do you think there would be any recourse on the dealer or is it a case of tough, go and spend some money on new tyres?

Does it matter if he's replacing them anyway?

I've bought used cars for years, and even some new ones, and they're almost always had rubbish tyres on them. Pirelli P6000, Kingstar, Stunner, even Road Champ (which were Marshall's budget brand if you can believe that!). I just got on and replaced them with something decent.

He was only planning on replacing the fronts, tyres all looked brand new when he bought it

A few months and he's replacing the fronts already?

If that's the case, just put the new tyres on the back and the wrong ones on the front, he'll have them burnt off by March. smile

I think it would be hard to prove what tyres were on the car when he bought it - I doubt it would be mentioned anywhere in the sales spec or on the invoice. 97 sounds very high for that sort of car, however - I would have expected 94 at most. Is he sure that's the right spec?
