Hey,

I will soon be starting a new job which is based in Central London, and will require the use of my car.

My start time is 5:30pm, 30 mins before the congestion charge ends, would I need to pay full price for those 30 mins?

Thanks in advance.

Whereabouts in Central Lpndon? Is it close enough to the edge of the area, or close to the 'free route' running north-south through the middle for you to leave your car somewhere nearby?

Be sure to register for auto pay to avoid fines and get it for £9 instead of £10 You save £1....

.....no you don't you fking s, this time 3 weeks ago it was £8 and a few years ago it was a fiver. s.

Having said that it's one hour and £9 on the train and tube or £8 and 45 mins (inc approx £3 petrol) to drive in....hmmmmm!

Edited to say, yes, I know you save a pound!

lol thanks for the replies, I guess I was hoping for something other than the obvious.. but then again this is the government car haters we are talking about.

The office is based in the city near the gherkin building, but work will be all over the city and docklands, I did ask about the congestion zone during the interview but was told none of the other engineers had mentioned it, so was hoping that due to the time they actually entered the zone they were ignore.

As MVDD said, I guess the best thing to do is sign up for the auto pay thing, that way if i do get flagged by the cameras at least I am covered, then I will see if it can be claimed on expenses.

Are there any 'secret routes' into the city area which don't have cameras?

You'll only be a hundred metres or so within the C-Charge zone, it may well be that the company owns some spaces in one of the many car parks just around the edge. Failing that buy a pre 1973 car as they are exempt. I guess you'll save more than £2000 a year that way.

Since the forth of Jan there is no free route any more because they removed the western section, so the charging zone ends at what was the free route.

just park on the edge and walk the 200m to the gerkin??

my flat is just inside the zone and I sometimes have to pay £8 to drive it 40meters if I forget to move it over the road the night before.
