Well do ya?

I've owned some cars easier to bond with than others, why?

What helps you to bond with your cars, detailing, realising expectations, pulling women etc?

Any cars you've owned that you just couldn't bond with?

Interested to hear al your comments.

I bonded with my impreza straight away and havent sold it. Doubt i ever will unless finances dictate.

Never bonded with the Z4, it was a useless leaky thing that drove terribly and went wrong a lot of the time.

The R8 im pretty 'meh' about at the minute. I like it a lot and cant fault it, but i dont love it. Sorry for the use of a Clarksonism but it lacks 'soul' and a little bit of character.

When my face aches from grinning I feel that's safe to say I've bonded with my car then.

I cried when I got rid of my old Puma. I was a bit pissed, but it was still proper crying.

Liked all me cars since the 2cv but never really bonded with them the same. Bonding was helped by rechassising and doing it up, touring around in it with girls and mates, mate waving a yellow banana out the top while having a good BP take away sandwich (was 20 years ago) it was sort of love between man and car.

I'd say yes. I've had 6 VX220's and £ for £ nothing can compare. I can't ever see myself getting rid of my current one, which is strange as it was by far the cheapest one out of all of them!

Why have you got that picture? Or is it best we don't go into details?

Definitely, I miss my MX-5 more than anything, and have come to hate my Celica with a burning passion. If the OH didn't like it so much it would be off the driveway for a fiver!!

Annoyingly, yes. Annoyingly because at the point anybody else would have scrapped it I repaired it for pretty much what it's worth. Bangernomics got lost in translation hehe But, I do love the car. smile

Not anymore.

The last one was a gold (don't laugh) manual 330ci SE which I wish I'd never got rid of, fantastic car which got under my skin. I think it was because it was my first 'prestige' car. I chopped it in for a silver auto 330ci sport because I thought it would be better. I didn't like it. Looks aren't everything let me tell you!

Before that I kind of fell for my battered old 8v mk2 Golf gti which I had for 3 years (the longest I've ever kept a car for). I chopped that in for my first Impreza because at the time, I wanted something newer, and had a major fascination with Imprezas. Impreza was a good car but I always wondered what happened to the Golf. I felt like I had betrayed it and couldn't look at it through guilt the day I traded it in and drove away from the dealership in the Subaru.

As I drove there in the Golf, which was still mechanically perfect, I thought to myself 'What am I doing, there's nothing wrong with this!' But I still went ahead anyway... frown

Like a lot of people my first car clearly meant a lot to me and I was rather sad when I sold it felt like id lost a friend.

I have bonded with my mk2 golf GTI and we get on fine except for when it plays up! If i hadn't id have broke it for spares a long time ago instead i remain commited and it turned into my first major project and the car i have owned for 6years.

I'm very attached to my TF, as daft as it sounds it's a funny car. It sounds diffrent when you start it after a long lay up or how i remember moments and include the car i know that sounds sad but i have a great memory of blasting to wales at 5 in the mornnig with the roof down for a weekend away.

Pretty sure I've bonded with all my cars. A good, spirited drive is a pretty good way of getting to know your car. It is how I bond with my current car if I've not driven it for a while. Hand washing and polishing is also quite good for aiding the bonding process although I think fixing it yourself is even better. Even if it is just new wipers or bulbs it is satisfying to be able to look at your car and think "I've fixed that".

I nearly cried when I sold the 147. Watching it back out of the driveway was emotional to say the least. Feel even more attached to the 156, now there's a car I would shed several tears for. Never felt anything for the Seat or any of the company cars, despite them all being decent cars in their own right.

ETA - Ninjaboy, I agree about the sound differences, I've never had a TF but it was the same with the 147. It made an inexplicably nice noise when it first started in a morning. Also agree with fourwheelsteer, even a simple fluid check and top up gives you a warm feeling.
