Hello all,

I currently work for Domino's Pizza as a delivery driver where I used to use the Domino's owned Honda scooters for delivering on and was just paid an hourly rate (rather than that + £1.10 per drop) About 18 months ago the franchise decided to sell the four scooters he owned as he was tired of paying the maintenance on them. So I was forced to make a choice whether to go look for another job or stay and deliver pizza in my pride and joy (a very nice condition 106 GTi)

I decided to stay and have been delivering pizza in my 106 for the last 18 months, I would have liked to have bought a second car for the job but I just couldn't justify owning and insuring two vehicles so decided not to.

My 106 has now died and is in need of an engine rebuild so I’m taking it off the road for the time being whilst I sort it out.

I'm now after a cheap car for under a £1000 purely for delivering pizza in and was wondering if anyone could think of a better car for the job than a Nissan Micra 1.0 K11?

Just what is it that makes them and most older Japanese cars so reliable?

Thanks for the advice.

It's got to be the K11 everytime, don't know why you're asking.

Yup, gotta be one of those. Fun to drive even in the 1.1, the engine loves to rev and it's surprisingly chuckable.

Micra. Great cars; only downside is the image, but they can take loads of abuse and are fun to drive.

Alternatives? Mk5/6 Fiesta, cheap but sound (if you can find one) Rover Metro.

How do you stop your car from stinking of stale pizza? I've always wondered if the delivery lads keep their cars fresh or if they just stink and there is nothing they can do about it.

I think anything is fine as long as it's reliable tbh. I use my MX5. With the roof down. As you can imagine this is great fun, although I do suspect it has some bearing on the amount of tips I get (negatively). In answer to the "stale pizza" question, I use the boot.

Ours use smart cars. Easy to park, don't need more than 2 seats, and the ideal city/town car.

If not a smart, then are Aygo/107s cheap enough now they've been around 4 years?

Escort van. Quickest things on the road, especially when you take the magnetic sign off

(edit) You'll only ever need second gear
