Motorway Police - what a refreshing change
Discussion
Was driving home from Manchester on Sunday night and came up behind an old Zafira with no tailights, the high level brake light was jammed on permanently and the other brake lights weren't working.
Now, I may be jumping to conclusions, but I think that show's a fairly lacklustre approach to car maintenance and it annoys me.
Just before the 50mph roadworks (I think they're on the M62, I can't really remember) we passed a marked Police patrol car, as we came out of the roadworks the same patrol car which seemed to have hung back hurtled forwards through the traffic, caught up the with the Zafira and pulled it over.
No idea what they ended up finding, but I can't tell you how pleased I was to see it get a tug. I don't have my own ANPR, but if I did I think it would have been going nuts, just a feeling I had about the car and it's occupants.
Well done to the coppers!

Saw a program last night, they were using a tractor unit to catch lorry drivers on the phone etc. loads eating, drinking on the phone, feet up etc. One was 3 times over the limit and on the phone. Scary when at the wheel of a 40 ton artic on a motorway full of small cars.

this thread jogged my memory
I guess I owe it to the BiB to post after my previous breathalizer thread
Approx 3y ago I was tanking downhill on a deserted motorway early on a Saturday morning
Visibility was perfect and the road was empty
I was on as steep and straight a downhill stretch as you can have in the UK
I may have let my speed nudge up to something a little more than 70mph plus 10%
As I passed a thick bushy area I spotted a plain car dug in like an SAS patrol
The driver was holding a radar gun at me
There was no question I was over the speed limit - although I actually was doing less than an indicated 100mph
There was also no doubt he had clocked me
I stepped off the gas and waited for him to pull out
Which he didnt
Good work fella
I just wish that more of the cops I come into contact with were like you
Cheers

Had you not stepped off the gas, he may have well pulled you. I suspect he was looking to see that you were being observant and reacted appropriately. That and they seem to need a certain amount of time following you to be able to log an official speed.
Your first point is most probably correct, and I would like to think so. I don't think your second point is accurate though, if they're set up with a speed gun and they clock you; that's enough. The following rule only applies when they're following you I believe.Edited by magnus911 on Thursday 13th January 00:12
OP reminds me of the time I was ambling along a one way street late at night (quite a wide road, granted), with a car behind me, when a third car overtook me at probably double the 30mph speed limit nearly taking my mirror off. It was a few years ago now, but I seem to recall my exact words were "wker, where are the coppers when you need them?". They must have heard me as the car following me turned on his blues and gave chase. By the time I reached the end of the road he had a traffic officer at his window which made my day!

A PHer brought that unit to a meet in November/December!Had a good experience last year.
Heavy traffic on the M25, but moving quite well - I was in lane 3 doing no more than 65 due to the weight of traffic, with many, many cars in front of me moving at similar speed passing what was a packed lane 1 and 2.
Anyway, chav boy in his old blue Clio decides he want past (no idea why, nowhere to go once past) and starts getting close, and I mean very close. Couldn't see his number plate, too close to brake test without getting hit, so I sit tight, gently backing off to open a gap ahead of me before giving it some beans to leave chav boy behind.
I was hoping chav boy would have picked up the message, but no, he decides to get even closer this time, giving it all the usual hand signals, etc. Now the good bit.
We pass a Police vehicle parked up on an observation ramp, which I saw, but which unfortunately chav boy didn't. 2 minutes later blues and twos behind us, Mr Plod has decided to come after us. I pull over to the left, and chav boy, not seeing plod (despite, it seems, the light and sound show) slowly passes, giving me the wker signal as he does so.
Mr Plod follows shortly afterwards and smiles to me and tuts as he passes. at some point ahead, chav boy finally cottons on and starts to pull over to the left through the traffic. As he gets towards the hard shoulder I pass him and give him a toot and a wave.
Sometimes, just sometimes, karma comes home
