... I really dont know why, but have a proper hankering for a latish model MG Metro!

Never had one, but did have a red Metro Van, with an MG engine and a Yellow "Dangerous Chemicals" sticker on the side of it as my 2nd car! It went real well and was a proper laugh with all the Hazmat stickers on it!

Anyway, back to my hankering. Fancy a red or white one wiht a Turbo body kit on it, and shuv some Minilights on it, cage in the back, LCR mani, Janspeed exhaust, a big Webber carb, and a 1380 motor in it!

Just reckon it would be fun, hold it's value, (getting rare now) and would make some fun noises! Plus not kill the bank on fuel??

Am I mental to genuinely have a proper hankering for one, when I have a Porker in the garage and a 350hp Audi S3 that I hardly ever bother drive, prefering my little Rover BRM on its steely winter wheels!

My wife thinks i am mental! But I am getting obsessed with the idea.

Do it do it!!! Then sell me the BRM for a nice price! biggrin

There light basic cars which I'm guessing would prove to be fun round the B roads and you can put your foot down most of the time, while still being in the limits of the law.

I think perhaps you may need to see a doctor! Though i did see an MG Metro race at silverstone classic this year which looked quite fun! They didn't appear to handle well or go particularly quickly though!

Seen that, but I think it is sold.
As is this, but weirdly seems like my ideal spec car.....!

Sounds like a great idea to me. That one looks good too (except the lack of alloys), I could be tempted.

To answer the question in the title - because they are fun, surely.

And I woke up having had a dream about a green one of them that I had bought and could not get anywhere in it as people kept stopping me for a go in it!!

Weird why I have this Austin MG fetish from the last few weeks!!

Am I right in thinking that was the first car (in the UK) with a digital dash? It didn't work though!

I thought they were all analogue dash, but some of the early ones (may be thinking Maestro instead) had a speaking computer in place of the clock.

I had a few metro's BITD, I thought they handled pretty well with a few mods. My favourite started as a 1.0 van, ended up with a Mountune 1380 and std steel wheels so was a bit of a sleeper. Was immense fun. TBH if I was to get one now it would be a later Rover 100 style with a 160VVC K-series slotted in.
