New Car Purchase Help
Discussion
I am trying to buy a new Polo 1.2 tsi for the Mrs. I am buying it outright with a pex of a 3 year old Corsa. The best discount I have had from several dealers, even with some pushing, is a standard VW UK £500 off. This is on a car with a factory price of £16.5k.
Is it realstic to expect more discount than this? I thought we were in recession???!

We are technically now in recovery, and VW are renowned for not being to generous on discounting anyway. Personally I'd be looking at it's sister car the Seat Ibiza instead, same engine, good ride, good kit tally all for a fair whack less than the Polo in the first place (about £2k less if memory serves). Is it realstic to expect more discount than this? I thought we were in recession???!

16k for a 1.2 Polo
thats actually a good deal when you consider that a golf will set you back over £30k these days.just think how many fantastic cars you could buy for £16k
For a start Focus St 3s were on a website with a £6k discount for £16100 2 months ago.
Skoda Octavia VRS were at £15200 on the same site. Both brand spanking new cars.
These were with military discounts although drive the deal was not much more on the Skoda.
OP have you tried companys like drive the deal?

Brand new loaded delivery miles Fiesta Zetec S for c.£13k, for example.
Great car by all accounts.

Just out of curiosity I went onto the VW configurator.
So what does 16.5k get you?
A Polo 1.2SEL in metallic blue with the optional extra of air con with climate control, a multifunction leather steering wheel, and 17" alloys.
By comparison pop along to Seat (who I now know are also doing a no VAT offer) and what does 16.5 get you? An Ibiza SC Sport with practically every option bar leather seats 17" alloys and still and £200 your pocket, and thats before you take into account anything on trade in or any additional discounts.
If I were buying new I know which of the two I would be picking.

Thanks - I want a Polo, not a Skoda, Seat or Fiesta, however good those alternatives might be.
If anyone has advice on VW discounts advice welcomed.
Fair play to you and a valid comment but I think what I and several others are trying to point out is you will be forking a fair wedge for a car when there are other options out there which offer more for the money. I think the only way you are going to get anything like a decent discount on a polo though is going to be through the likes of autobytel (currently offering 1.2 TSI 105 SEL 3dr Hatchback at £13,334) or drive the deal. A sizeable discount direct from a dealer though is not going to happen. If anyone has advice on VW discounts advice welcomed.
