I have seen quite a few nice looking cars in London that are matt black and wasnt until recently I found out that they have been wrapped using vynal coating to get them like this. The best ones I have seen were a ferrari 430 and a merc csl and they looked awsomne....

I am toying with the idea of doing this to my 911 and can see the benefits of it, like protecting the paintwork etc... But not sure how easy it will be to sell later on...

Does anyone on here have a car thats been wrapped or know anyone that has?? would like to know what they think of it etc.....

Check out this thread on Passionford, a chap I know of has wrapped his Audi. Looks pretty good to me. I've been considering a colour change on my Mk1 Focus RS but reckon I'll look into getting it wrapped instead.

I think it looks quite cool but only on high end cars. 911, sure. Audi A3, get outta here!

Where did you see the Ferrari? What it a Novitec tuned one? If so I've seen that a few times around Mayfair and I believe that its painted, rather than vinyl wrap.

If not, whoever did the wrap on it did a far more impressive job than the other wrapped cars I've seen.

Don't forget to tell your insurer!

Thought about wrapping too, but am not sure it's cool anymore.

See my post above. the video clearly shows a F430 being vinyl wrapped.

Audi was red beforehand. Not seen the car personally so dont know if shuts have been done but I would expect they have.

Can it be removed without damaging the paint?

I heard a few owners have removed the black vinyl wrap from the Mk2 Focus RS500 with no problems...

It'll only affect resale in as much as anyone who doesn't know what vinyl wrapping is will disregard your car for being the wrong colour. And given that a properly done job costs almost as much as a respray and comes off without damaging the original paint I'd be surprised if it had a negative effect on its value.

But as far as looking cool goes....nah, not anymore. Matte black is SO 2007 hehe

There is a Hamann 599 around Mayfair which is wrapped in Matte Black

Car wraps are really easy to get off, especially if you use vinyl. They also save on paint, wear and tear, etc. We usually only do them on the front here in America. I personally hate how they look, but whatever floats your boat, buddy.

I got our Smart wrapped in the summer to use as a promotional vehicle. Picture is in the profile.

Matt black is very easy to do and is possibly the cheapest option. Plenty of companies that do it...mainly totally dynamic and Raccoon being the most popular companies. I got mine done in mainly chrome, which limited the companies that would do it, as the wrap is not as flexible as the matt wrap. Cost wise the next option is next the carbon fibre wrap. I had quotes to do the Smart of over £5k. For a bloody smart! Didn't end up paying that, but it's still a lot for something that is temp. As someone said above don't forget to tell your insurer....they doubled my quote when I told them.

If you're at Autosport this weekend pop by us and I can talk you through the car and you can even see what the little bit of wrap looks like.
