I've driven past it many many times, but finally
I get the chance to have a roam round the city centre.

Anywhere flash, designer or even funky is right out.

Spit'n'sawdust, greasy biker types, long hair and tattos
no problem.

If they have a thousand different beers I've never heard
of and a kebab shop round the corner, so much the better.

No replies, so here is my trip report.

Nearly all the pubs are good, bordering on excellent.

Dozen page menus of different beers in many places, and yes
you can get populist dross like Guinness, Grolsch, Becks
and Jupiler if you want.

Lange Steen Straat is the street of a thousand kebab shops.
Starter, enormous gut-bash & chips, afters, choccies and mints,
more turps than the paint factory, all for £15.

All this, and an unbombed medieval town centre.

Gent replaces Brugge as my favourite Belgian town.
Antwerp next.
