The only part of flying I enjoy is the taking off part.

What car would you compare it too in terms of actual accelaration Gs?

It feels kinda SL55 kinda thrust (to me anyway)

yeah its hard to tell because so high up and removed from the ground.

I am talking about the force involved in the acceleration of the aircraft JUST before it leaves the ground...

A normal paseneger plane 747 etc doesn't have particularly good/brisk acceleration. A supercharged Jag would probably be comparable/quicker...

As a guide I recall an Audi Quattro advert in the 1980s which claimed 'more passenger legroom than concorde' then in brackets 'and quicker from 0-50'. Suggesting Concorde probably did the vital 0-60 sprint in circa 6 seconds.

I recon my remapped Audi S2 with 300ftlbs "feels" like it accelerates faster than a normal passenger jet.... smile

0-100 mph a quick car would stand a chance. remember we don't use full power for take-off.
100-200mph I don't think much would out accelerate most commercial aircraft.

Perhaps, but the Audi didn't go on to do 1350mph.

I thought a 747 takes off at around 180mph and is still pulling hard when it does - Veyron?

Any 600cc+ motorcycle will give you that buzz, especially if you happen to be accelerating a little too fast over a humped back bridge wink

I'd actually say a fast car would have better acceleration compared with most commercial jets, up to a point anyway. Despite having masses of power they weigh hundreds of tonnes at take-off.

ISTR in the Eurofighter vs Veyron bit that Top Gear did, the Bugatti was quicker up to a point before the jet roared past.

Are we talking Light aircraft with an old VW engine, a 747 full of fat business men or are we info Typhoon territory

Also are we including the potential additional thrust of JATO (Jet-fuel Assisted Take Off) or would that be classed as having Nitros on the comparable car???

As for the conveyor, you could stick it on whatever the hell you wanted, it's only when the airspeed is correct that it would lift off, thats why they take off INTO wind!

You could launch it in a wind tunnel if you wanted!!!

IIRC a TVR Griffith could outpace all then-current RAF aircraft except the Harrier to 60mph.

I always used to get a buzz off the acceleration of planes. Until I got a motorbike. The plane feels slow now.

I think 0 - 150mph in a plane is something like 25 to 35 seconds.
