Do the Police use any Non-Turbo cars?

I was followed quite closely the other day by a Vectra and when dwelling on the situation I was thinking about this.

I know around my way they don't anyway.

T5's use the 2.5 5cyl Turbo
3 or so Evo's that South Yorkshire police have are 2.0 4cyl Turbo

Then all of the other cars use turbo diesels..

So, will they buy any car so long as it has a turbo?!

not necessarily, the Omega's they used to use round my way were just big (3.2?) V6's and I don't think they were turbo'd.

Yep. They love they Veyron especially as it has 4 turbos.

Was about to say the same.

I imagine derv's are a priority for standard squad cars, especially as they are seeing high miles. The high performance vehicles do seem to be turbo's nowadays, but that's probably becuase of manufacture changes and not the squad.

We have a Chevrolet Matiz round our way, I a pretty sure that hasn't got a turbo.

Is it a police car though - we have some community support vehicles that are older fiesta's, although they might be diesel...

There are still some old focus' around our way, I believe these just have the 1.8 petrol lumps.

I think you'll find that the Merc is a turbo diesel. We use Mondeo ST220's and have used an E46 M3.

Still using a lot of 2.2 Vectras, 2 litre and 2.5V6 Mk3 Mondeos, 1.6FSI Octavias, 1.6 Focus, and the likes here in N. Ireland. Most of the fleet is going diesel now, though. Latest batch are 1.6TDCI Focus estates, which are worse than useless 4-up with equipment.

I think the 3.2 Audi is popular in Scotland, too.

Also, I think Cheshire Police have a couple of 330i's.

In Silver.. 3.6L VR6, 0-60mph 5.6 seconds

I've noticed it a few times doing 60 or so in the near side lane just waiting for someone to come bombing past

I was a bit surprised to see a petrol V8 Disco3 as an M6 patrol car a couple of years back.

Are you sure these BMW's and Audi's are not diesels. We use them here and they are all diesels. There are not many forces these days that are buying big engined petrol cars.

Plenty of Corsa and Astra police cars in Essex, I'm assuming they are the run of the mill petrol jobbies.

Yeah, I used to know a Scottish guy from another forum who was BiB. His weapon was the A3 3.2. Admittedly that was a couple of years ago so maybe it has moved on now to some poor unsuspecting soul who bought a bargain at auction.

There's also at least one unmarked 330i in Cheshire Police, as I saw it this morning pulling over a 911 on the M56. Registration ends in EXE.

Hampshire Police have a few unmarked Subaru Legacy Spec B's.

Wiltshire had some ST220's as traffic cars, I still occasionaly see them, but I imagine they are due for replacement now.
