Help, are there are any slightly more economical V6s?

As above really, im runing a Ford Cougar V6 and im only getting around 20 mpg, this is how i drive as well but i was wondering are there any more economical v6's even when i drive mine 'nice' i still struggle to see any more then 25 to the gallon. I live on the Isle of Wight so never guna get great mpg.

Does it need to be a V6? My inline 6 driven 325i gets over 30 mpg easily. Somewhere around 190bhp, if that's important. I imagine the 330i is slightly lower in mpg, with a fair bit more power.

Obviously a smaller capacity engine (as per previous post) or lighter car (e.g. 1-series) would help.

You might get a smidge more out of a Mk3 Golf VR6, but I struggled to get more than 25 out of my Mk4 4motion and the Mk5 R32.

yeah inline 6's would be fine i just dont want to go back down to 4 cylinders even if power is better and fuel is better haha. i just like 6's

You're 'guna' get some hints on spelling I reckon.

I get about 28-29 mpg from my ZS180 on a 30 mile (each way) commute. If you don't mind a relatively old car, a Mazda MX3 returns pretty good economy from it's 1.8L V6. Performance isn't exactly mind blowing though.

I've averaged 31mpg from a BMW 130i in 10k miles of mixed driving (though not too much town work).

I considered other sixes (Golf R32, 350Z etc) but nothing else looked likely to get anywhere near returning the mpg of a modern BMW inline six.

My S4 with it's supercharged 3L V6 is averaging ~27Mpg at the moment (although it's getting better as time goes on)..
