£800-1000: to get someone reliably from home to clients
Discussion
Off the back of my request for advice on a friend's repair costs on her Golf, if she was to decide it was not economical to repair it, any advice on what to get to reliably get her from home to various client sites?
She is not bothered about image, except for it not being a complete banger in the eyes of clients.
I was thinking of a Honda Accord or something similarly bomb-proof?

An accord would be a safe option. I bought an Accord for a similar price a few years ago as a stop gap car after I wrote off my Prelude
It was very reliable, they look ok. A very boring car in my opinion but it did everything I needed it to until the point I gave it away to a friend who was in need of a car for similar reasons to what you state.

What type of Golf does your friend have?
That sort of money can buy you heaven or heartache, Jap stuff although reliable can go rather rusty so I'd not rush into quick decisions feet first
Mk3 CL I think. It's been ok for them, but radiator and headgasket just gone. That sort of money can buy you heaven or heartache, Jap stuff although reliable can go rather rusty so I'd not rush into quick decisions feet first
She has a new job that requires a fair amount of driving and is trying to decide whether to salvage the Golf for £500-800 of repairs or get something new for circa £1k.

She nearly has enough to get into the newer shape Civic which IMO whilst bland still looks modern. Personally I would stick to Japan for this kind of money, other options would be Corolla/Avensis or something a bit more interesting looking, a Hyundai Coupé?

ETA: This one is the F2 special edition, 80k warranted miles, £890 on autotrader.

Nice idea but needs 5 doors as baby on the way.
My vote for the money as she will be using it for m'way and these swallow the miles.
