Long distance cruiser help needed

I am considering a new job which would entail a 405 mile commute each way monday/friday. Suggest a selection of cars 7-13k price range. They must be diesel and have cruise. Oh and carrying 2 others so comfy please.

My short list so far Citroen C5, its very short so help needed.

You're going to drive for 7 or 8 hours on a Monday before starting work and then the same back on a Friday? Hope it pays well!

I'd suggest a camper so two of you can kip in the back whilst one drives.

I have a VW Passat 2.0 140bhp tdi. very good long distance cruiser. best part of 1000 miles on a tank and plenty of power. at the top of your price range you should get a good low mile 09 plate estate.

Or if you want to go a bit smaller/newer/cheaper, an E39 530d/535d (for £13k you might even get an E60 diesel of some kind) or the E-class/A6 diesels. Passat? Mondeo TDCi?

Much as I like the A8 its just too big A6 better I think.

What about a Chrysler 300c? Will deliver 35mpg (Merc diesel engine)on a cruise, very comfy with plenty of poke when needed. Ride and handling are fine on A roads and plenty of kit for the cash. Little to touch a C5 for ride quality though.

Thats my thinking. The roads vary all the way up to the top of Caithness you see. Like the look of the 300C but don't think its the car for me.

The C5, which will let you down, the drive (assuming we're talking UK roads), even if the 2 passengers were Nigella Lawson rubbing cream onto Kelly Brooke's melons I would give it a miss...

You've probably done your homework, but budget airlines and rental cars cost peanuts, and the trains aren't that bad...

I know what your saying about the Citroen and did you see the end location you fall off if you try any harder, There is no easy way up to Caithness other than car. I have ran a ZX in the past (Little less complex) but did 237k and nothing went wrong ever.

Don't listen to the naysayers; I ran a facelift C5 (2005-) for two years (2007-2009) when I was travelling all over the place with work. Never even suggested letting me down.

I replaced it last summer (but it's still sitting on the verge outside my house as no fecker will buy it )
