Friction reducer / Oil additive

They claim increased MPG or performance!

Some are a few quid and other cost £20-30.

Avoid all of them, Shell, Castrol spend millions and millions developing oil.

Engines don't need Teflon.

Avoid like the plague. These more often than not REDUCE the effectiveness of certain oil properties. No engine manufacturer would pay out warranty knowing you had used these. (Sure they may not know about it, but higher dollar engines in big machinery/trucks etc would be subject to an oil sample - this stuff would definitely be on the 'bad' list.)

This. Oil cools and lubricates perfectly well.

If you are going to get some, would Sir also like some huile serpent?

Avoid all the useless snake oil formulations and simply change your oil regularly with a decent brand that meets your car manufacturers requirements.

Slick 50 used to be recommended on 2 stroke mopeds but I doubt it'd be effective on a car.

Teflon - because introducing solids into your oil is good for your engine.
