We are expecting our first wee little'un soon and Mrs K wants me to have a "baby on board" thing in the car.

I asked why and she says "they look cute" (at least she is honest wink)

I don't see that such stickers make any other drivers bahave differently, or do they?

She would also like me to get a sun shade.
I refuse to have paddington bears face in my back window but I do agree that the sun (when it reappears) needs to be shaded from baby's face.

Any suggestions for a good alternative (roller blinds, curtains, parasols) wink

Serious suggestions appreciated (as I've done all the possible jokes above, surely) wink

Go to Halfords, get a "Princess on board" sticker/blind thing.
Otherwise avoid Parisian tunnels!

Oh, you means the other way around. Stick a towel over its head. Seriously though, no-one had sunscreens in cars when we were young.

You can get plain black ones, why not then get a large Pistonhead sticker and put it on the blind!. thumbup

As far as I'm aware the baby on board notice isn't to do with keeping tailgaiters at bay, it is to inform the emergency services they should prioritise your car in the event of a massive crash.

[Best Jeremy Clarkson voice] Whhhyyy!!!! Oh, that's right I was about to run into the back of you but now that I see you have a "baby on board" I will change my plan and make sure that I do not collide with your car. There should be a special rate of VAT of 1,000% on those signs [end Jeremy Clarkson voice]

But also serves to warn other drivers that you are easily distracted by junior and prone to erratic driving. wink

On the sun blind thing - there may be one specific to your model of car that fits the window better than the Halfords generic offerings.

Never knew that, and I'm sure neither do the majority of people that buy them.
My wife insisted on buying sun blinds with cats faces on them and sticking them in my car after our little lad was born. I was guilt tripped into keeping them in for one journey, with horror stories of heat stroke and the like, but coincidentally managed to crush both of them simultaneously in the electric windows shortly after and replaced them with plain black ones.

And on that basis, you will be absolutely sure to remove it, every time you take a journey without said baby on board?

For me, I simply see them the same way I see drivers who leave their foglights on when there is no fog = avoid. But each to their own and all that.

Good point??? Why is the random sprog(ette) more of a priority than anyone else when there's been a massive crash?

Mothercare do a range of roller blinds that sucker cup onto the window - they look black on the outside but have animals and suchlike on the inside. Best of both worlds... wink

mmmmmm but should they? Why is the baby more important than the middle aged chap with a wife and kids to look after?

Because they have all their life ahead of them and their life is more delicate than a full grown adult?

Injuries could perhaps be more life threatening?

Conversely, why should the person who caused the accident be a priority?
