I've seen the 'chirst isn't insurance expensive' posts before but its not really applied to me as I'm old and drive a shed with full NCB.

This year however, the cheapest quote I can find is around £300. Going TPFT saves about £10. Last year I'd have been expecting to have a choice of quotes around the £200 mark with some cheaper.

So how much are you paying? No classic policies or limited mileage please.

I think the (classic but will no mileage restrictions and with full NCB entitlement) policy on my MGB last time it was on the road was about 90 quid fully comp, or there abouts.

The Lotus was 400ish this year, (despite a fault accident dropping me to 3 years' NCB) the Punto around 150.

The policy for my Focus has hovered around the £280 mark (fully comp) for the last three years. I'm 33 with full protected NCB, garaged car in a south coast town, 10k p.a.

But surely most sheds are > 10 years old so you would naturally opt for a cheapo "classic" policy, and that does not automatically mean limited mileage.

I have three cars insured that way, the total for all 3 is £285 pa. If I had used conventional insurance and including full NCB I would still be looking at way above £250 each.

As classic policies don't bother with NCB that's being used on a non-shed.

I managed a profit on our MX-5, got £100 cashback from quidco, sold the MX-5 and cashed in the policy. About £50 profit.

Historic military vehicle. You can insure ex-mod Land Rovers in the same category thorugh specialist insurers. I had an '83 series 3 Land Rover insured fully comp recently for <£100.

I once rung an ordinary insurance company for a quote on my Caterham and, for a 26 year old, it was £266. I asked them out of curiosity to quote on an R500 and because it was still an 1800cc engine it was still £266! That's got to be the best performance per pound for insurance possible biggrin

Thanks. Does that work for young lads - 17/18 year olds, or is there a minimum age for that type of policy?
