Well, about 20 minutes ago actually but it got me thinking that I hadn't seen one for months and months. Where did they all go to? And Vauxhall Tigras - they used to be like clits (every twot had one). And Renault 5s: I don't think I've seen one this year.

What other cars have (surprisingly) vanished from our roads?

Weirdly each of the cars you've mentioned can all be found parked on my road (Two Tigras, one original shape the other the newer hairdresser mobile) One Renault 5 (in Monaco trim no less) and a Sierra Sapphire. Also at one stage had a Montego and a Granada estate living on the road as well.

I think there are at least a couple of each in the Readers Car section, you see a few pop up at shows every now and again but as you say, hardly any on the road.

Your 'twot' comment did make me chuckle though biggrin

They have mostly rotted away by now. I think the only ones left are of the bean can exhaust variety, where the owners are on their fifth set of sills.

A good mate of mine still drives around in a K reg Sierra estate, that he's owned for at least 15 years.... so I see one quite often...... it's about the only one though these days, apart from the odd ropey n chavv'd Sapphire Cossie.

In fact I rarely ever see any 1980's cars around West London anymore.

I saw a white XR4 on christmas day, it was nice to see one of these still about. Shame you dont see more 80s/90s classics about. Damn the scrappage scheme!

I havn't seen a vauxhall cavalier for ages.... not that i'd want too mind, but you know, i used to a lot....

I guess the scrappage scheme killed a load off (maybe thankfully)...

Editted to add, we had a load of classics brought in for scrappage including MG midget, MGB GT, Triumph herald and an austin healey (i admit that was in poor condition and needed a LOT of money spent on it). But even so frownfrownfrown

They did indeed. They also used the same engine and running gear on a Cavalier.

If a particular desire to see any of these automobiles takes you, you need only hop on the m5/a38 to plymouth, where they abound!

And funny you should mention cavs, as my best mates partner runs one. In a delightful shade of sun fade used to be red

^^^ this. I've rarely seen any older, pre-1990 cars on the road in quite a long time.

The only time I've seen Sierras, they tend to be truly immaculate Cosworths. Can't remember the last time I saw a Cavalier, or a regular Sierra.

Aside from the one sat in my garage, I saw a Sapphire a couple of days back on my way to Geneva. Not many left, that's for sure. They were built to a pretty low price, but that said, how many bulletproof 80's Mercs and Audis do you see...? I guess any 20+ year old car is going to be pretty knackered by now...
