Incompetent Drivers?
Discussion
Is it just me, but do these ruin the whole pleasure of driving?
This morning, slightly busy D/C, all doing 50-60mph and a car (307 ) comes down the slip lane.. I come off the loud one to allow them to build a good merge speed to avoid everyone braking, and the 307 slams the anchors on and decides sitting at the end of said, short, slip lane waiting.
Why do these people do this?
MLM's are just as bad as these cretins.

It's going to be a judgement call based on positions etc. But it's not unusual when joining from a slip road to have some incompetent bugger slow down on the carriageway just as I'm planning to ease off and pull in behind them. I should be giving way to them but they don't seem to grasp that.
You're right, they do. It's a lack of observation, concentration and general awareness that gets me. And I also think that being able to drive on the motorway is absolutely necessary before passing your test- whether this is done in 2 stages or not (so you can't go on a motorway until you have matered the basics). Given that most people would travel the greatest distances on motorways, to not have experienced driving on them before you have passed your test is ridiculous- and in my mind is the reason why you have such poor lane discipline and observation skills.
In most other European countries I can think of, there is a motorway component to the driving test; some also have theory tests, first aid training, proper eyesight tests and skidpan training as part of the driving test. I think Germany has a '3 strikes and out' policy on failing your test too. Harsh but fair.

The clue is in their choice of car.
IMO modern peugeot = feckless idiot.
I really dont see 1 redeeming feature of a modern peugeot. They all look like Jack Nickelson playing the Joker. Hideous cars.
The same goes for any car displaying 'eco' somewhere. This means, 'cheapest engine rebadged to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside'
I agree with this.
I done PassPlus when I had passed my test, was excellent.. Joining, leaving, moving lanes, over taking, all on the M25 & M3.. Learnt alot from that, and should be compulsary to taking your test.
Its just annoying more than anything else, and also to see 2,3 or 4 cars sat there at the end of the slip lane is a sad sight to see.

I see your point but what's the differece between a dual carriageway which you do whilst learning/testing and a Motorway? In most other European countries I can think of, there is a motorway component to the driving test; some also have theory tests, first aid training, proper eyesight tests and skidpan training as part of the driving test. They're not that complex/daunting...

Is that new? <counts years> 14 years ago I didn't go on dual carriageways before passing.Munter said:

Is that new? <counts years> 14 years ago I didn't go on dual carriageways before passing.I don't understand the ones that don't look when approaching or entering a roundabout. I am not talking about looking and not seeing, you don't even see the head move and out they come
I can't understand this even on a very selfish level, forgetting giving a damn about anyone else - don't they care that their expensive car might get damanged for the sake of one quick glance to check that it is clear to pull out?
Give way to the right is a dead art, its now pull out, and let other people deal with it

Another pet hate at the moment is cars which approach to overtake you with a 5-10mph difference and then sit directly alongside you at the same speed as you approach a slower car.
Jesus, I'm glad I'm not alone on this one. They come to overtake, and then slow down?! So now you've got to drop down your speed to get behind them to then overtake.

^^^Too subtle Munter, I think people have missed your point. You are of course absolutely correct.
I'll admit, if I can't see clearly what speed the traffic is doing, I'll probably come down at 40mph or so.. Easy enough to get up to 70 if need be, or slow down without brakes to match joining traffic.
I have to say most 80mph slip laners appear to be in a suit, driving an Audi/VW with lease plates on the back.. All I'm saying

YOU are overtaking me. It is YOUR responsibility to ensure I don't have to alter speed or direction.
When I overtake YOU, YOU are too fking dense to notice that I either
a. Speeded up ever so slightly to ensure you didn't get stuffed up the arse of the all-too-visible 38 tonne articulated lorry, or
b. Eased off ever so slightly allow you to pull out ahead of me.
Clueless, absolutely clueless.
And breathe.
