Folks,

I fancy some suggestions for my next new car.

Ive had lots and lots of differing cars and now I need some imagination to pick another.

My Mk4 Golf Gt Tdi is about to go this friday leaving me with £2000 circa to spend on the new vehicle..

These are the rules

1. Im not a fan of really old stuff
2. It has to be fun to drive
3. Be a wee bit unique
4. And not insurance killing ( ie evos and imprezas are out)

It MIGHT be tracked once, or twice for fun but thats not important. It will be driven to work almost every day (but I fancy the whole buckets, harnesses and roll cage idea). Its not essential but ideally if I could get a bike on board somehow that would make life easier

Suggestions Ive considered

Clio 172
Defender
Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo

Fire away with some suggestions folks..

Cheers smile

can you twirl a spanner when needed? A defender on track would be interesting.

how about a honda s2000 or type R?

For £2k? Are you kidding me?

OP, is a Prelude too old? What about a Celica ST202 or 185? MR2 N/A? Lexus Soarer? Again, not sure if these are too old for you.

Personally, I'd probably go for something like a Civic MB6 for that price range. Same engine block as the DC2 (gearbox is higher geared though).

Hmmm,

Some interesting options there folks thanks!

Im liking the 172 idea,

Did think about an MX5 but probably too small for what I need/want.

I can indeed twirl the old spanners with no problems.

Now If I could find a cheap E36 M3....

Not that you could find an m3 in your price range. But if you did the insurance is more than an evo. Plus parts cost the earth. A good 328 would be a nice choice though

you would be surprised at what you can pick up a hi mileage m3 needing work for nowadays.

HOWEVER I didnt appreciate that the insurance would be so astronomically high!

Anyone driven a focus ST170?

Clio 172 is a good bet.

Look at Honda Prelude 2.2 vtecs. Softer and more GT like than the clio, but still has a fantastic engine, good handling and comfort. £2k would get a really nice example too.

Starlet GT Turbo or Glanza v if you want a newer one. 1.3 turbo, climate control. Insurance is good too.

Not a big fan of starlets or glanzas. Dont know why.

Id did think about the prelude but being such a big car and having so little room inside for bikes etc put me right off.

Ibiza Cupra turbos?? hmm

I had a Starlet GT turbo a couple of years ago and it was a very good car. My mate has an Integra type R DC2. I'd have one of them over a prelude.
