hi new on here. i am looking for a hot hatch just need a few ideas probably maximum 1.6, for insuraance although i can get insure on a mk2 golf gti 16v. i have been looking into starlet glanza v or 106 gti's anyone got any other ideas. i will be looking to buy kind of august time and hopefully will have £1500 - £2000 to spend. unfortunately rolling around in a 1.1 saxo at the moment. i want something nippy and smart. Any input will be deeply appreciated!

Bit of a niche choice, and possibly a little expensive, - Suzuki Ignis Sport, 1.5L, reasonable performance and a bit of a rally background. Might be able to scrape an older, higher mileage motor for the top end of of your budget.

Theres one in the classifieds for £2500 - have seen them closer to £2000 at times, just a suggestion! Come with great Recaro seats too.

I was going to suggest this (see my profile wink) but doubt you will get a good one for under £3k...

Saxo VTR, Focus 1.6 Zetec, Toyota Corolla SR VVTi 6 speed (if you can find one), VW Polo 1.4 16v, Ford Puma/Fiesta Zetec S... Lots of decent cars to be had. If he wants a 'hot hatch' a leggy example might not be the best idea unless suspension has been overhauled etc.

205 gti, should be able to get a 1.6 relatively cheaply insured, and could definitely get a very good condition one in that budget, surprisingly the 1.9s are cheaper to insure than some moderners so worth looking at.

The above 106 rally / 205gti are prob up there but id look into a Zetec-S 02 ish cheap to run , insurance should be better than the gti`s - wont pack as much of a punch tho but they are still very nippy.
We have one in our family that gets shared about / 2nd car and everyone loves it!
