just placed an ad earlier for my 94 Nissan Skyline - within half an hour.. recieved the following e-mail... could you please confirm my suspicions? Thanks, Nath.

davidstls96@gmail.com

Thanks for the response,i was just making sure all the bases were covered,i will take it for £5,000 as i am interested in the immediate purchase.I reside in the Edinburgh,United Kingdom and i would be making use of a shipping company to have this picked up from you and have it delivered to me.Further arrangements will be made with you in regards to the pick up once i have paid you.

I would appreciate if you email me with more pictures (if available) too since i won't be seeing this in person, what's the PayPal email to send funds to in order for me to pay you ASAP.

PS:I will be adding the 3.9% PayPal surcharge and my shippers fee to the total amount i will be paying you,i would need you to help me transfer their charges to my shippers via western union once you get my payment.

Scammy Scam and the Scammy Bunch

Anyone buying a car from the UK and telling you that Edinburgh is indeed in the UK should set alaram bells ringing.

Anyone wanting to ship a car is also another classic.......

It would no doubt work along the lines that you get paid by Paypal then the 'dispute' the item - Paypal find in their favour (or their using a cloned account).....your car is gone and so is your money.

Run, run away as fast as can, all IMO of course wink

Everything says scam about this - just the wording says it all - no questions about the car etc.

Tell him you accept the offer and see what happens next.

I just signed up to this website http://www.emailfinder.com
there is a one off fee of $23.40 (£19.12) for a full years subscription!!

Although the site is US based, you can use the different searches to piece together the sender's name and address, with US residents, you can check their background history too!!

Was easily worth the £20 to prevent losing a £4k car!!

And here's one I received:

Sorry for getting back to you late.I am glad to inform you that i am satisfied with the details and condition of the car .

Presently i am in offshore in Ireland but i will be traveling down to uk to complete the transaction,so first of all, I will like you to please put this car off advert to avoid interruptions from other interested buyers and count it sold,ok.

Concerning the price and payment ,i will be happy to pay you £10400.00 for it .

I will send you a Bankers draft of £4,500.00 which i will allow to clear into your bank account .

You will deduct £1,000.00 as a deposit for it which is non-refundable.

You will send £3,500.00 to shipping agent asap the cheque has cleared because I was informed by him that, he will need the money for shipping in advance at least a weekend before i will be in UK.

The remaining balance of £9500.00 payed into your bank account or by cash before it can be pick up.i will be waiting for 48hrs for you to confirmed the balance before the shipping agent can pick it up .Let me know the best way you want the balance to be paid?

You need not to worry as our prepaid shipping Agent will come to pick it up from your base for shipment asap the balance has been confirmed by you .the reason for this shipment method is as a result of the congestion at the Singapore seaport, which does not make it directly shippable there.

I will compensating you with £100 for the time involve in paying the shipping agent and also for you to withdraw the advert.

If you accept my terms of payment,The details and picture of the car will be sent to the shipping agent and get back to me with the NAME ,ADDRESS AND CONTACT MOBILE TELEPHONE NUMBER for Bankers draft to be delivered to you .I look forward to a successful transaction with you and await your urgent response.

PLEASE NOTE,ITS WHEN THE FULL PAYMENT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY YOU BEFORE THE CAR DOCUMENT WILL BE RELEASE TO ME AND SIGN

I'll stand corrected if someone here has actually done it but has anyone ever in the history of the world sold a car to an unseen buyer with an online payment and not been scammed? (I used to sell TTs and Boxsters on ebay but they went in the post so dont count).

It just amazes me that scams of this nature still exist. However Im still waiting for my cut of 20 mill from king wasgoingdown who contacted me out of the blue last year!

I was looking for a car on autotrader recently, and came across all those feckwit@yahoo.com adverts selling 25k cars for 10p, and out of idle curiosity replied to one pretending to be gormless punter interested in advertised vehicle...

this is the reply I received:

Hello,
I regret the delay of my response.
I already have many emails so I hope you'll understand that I need to sort them.
My name is Victoria Russel I have 31 years old and I was doctor for 3 years in Preston. I am glad you are
interested in my car 2007 Honda CRV CR-V 2.2 I-CTDI EX SPORT 4X4 BLUE
First, I want you to know that I lived in Preston until 2 months ago, but now I'm in Hungary because I am
pregnant and I have decided to give birth in my home country so I want to sell my car and move back in Hungary.
The car is in perfect working condition. It is in showroom condition, no scratches, no dents, full service
history, HPI clear, no outstanding finance, non-smoking, never involved in any accident.
The car is still UK registered and now it is locked into YAHOO AUTO possesion in Preston. If you dicide to buy it you will receive the original invoice,
logbook, keys and all the documents to register it into your name .Genuine reason for sale: unfortunately I can't register the car here because you know
it is very hard to drive a Right-hand car here and more of that I need money cash fast!
I want £3000 for my car and the shipping will be free !
Due to amount involved and due the fact that I am not located in the United Kingdom, I only accept third party
transaction mediator.
I have chosen the YAHOO AUTO Shipping Center Program to take care of all the proceedings, so the car will be shipped
by YAHOO AUTO.
Beside shipping the car, YAHOO AUTO will act as the middle man - holding the payment until you receive and inspect
the car. You will have one week inspection period.
Regarding the payment method I would like to use YAHOO AUTO like a third part for the payment because in my opinion
this is the safest way to handle the transaction. You will have the car for inspection and test drive BEFORE
any money is released to me.
Look how this work:
1. I will contact them , and I will send your shipping information to YAHOO AUTO to open the transaction.
2. They will send you a payment invoice for the car (the invoice will be from customer support team) about
how to make the payment.
3. The invoice contains all the info about this transaction and you must follow the steps written there to
complete the deal with me.
4. After all that will be done, the car will be shipped by YAHOO AUTO SHIPPING CENTER, and the car will arrive at your address in
5 working days..
5. Buyer accepts delivery and informs YAHOO AUTO to tell them if he is satisfied or not
6. YAHOO will release the money to the seller(in case the buyer is satisfied) or to the buyer(in case that
he is not satisfied).
This means a 3rd party.
You will receive a tracking # in the same day when the car will be shipped from YAHOO AUTO.
I am using the protection and shipping program offered by YAHOO Shipping Center because this will protect both
of us and also it is the fastest way to complete this deal.
If you want to go on with this deal , mail me immediately !
Let me know if you are interested ...

Why haven't car purchasing scams evolved beyond this? The second anyone hears 'Western Union' 'Shipping Agent' 'Based Overseas' all accompanied by terrible use of English, surely they smell a scam? There must be a whole host of more successful options- Asking for 10% deposits for cars which don't exist as is usual for many ebay auctions immediately springs to mind?

I read a report that stated that in the UK alone these scammers are taking 2bil a year , its like the old time share scam if it seems too good to be true it generally is smile
