I had an 05 soft top, and it doesn't seem much worse than a friends hard top as far as noise is concerned. His is a Jap import, don't know if that makes any difference. I found the engine+road noise seemed to contribute more than wind noise, probs why there wasn't that much difference.
Good with roof down as well, you feel pretty well cocooned in the cabin.
However, the soft did feel a bit blunted by the weight, was pretty shocked when I struggled to pull away from a mates 330ci on the drive back from the garage! Also, driving it back to back with a hard top, it seemed a bit less direct and more understeery, though nothing a bootfull wouldn't cure!
Soft top gets my vote anyway; driving and getting a tan/burnt head is always better!
Hope this helps.

My last two cars were a 06 350z 296 GT Roadster then a 58 350z 313 GT Coupe.
I found the Roadster to be a little heavier, a minute amount less sharp in steering, but with almost no difference in handling/grip. No sign of scuttle shake with it either, and a very robust hood mechanism. Roof down it was a joy, and certainly not a wafter. I undersand the car was engineered from day 1 to have a soft-top version, so the compromise is far less than most would imagine. It was though, roof up, someway noisier than the coupe.
The coupe was a little sharper and faster (not by much at all), but of course the roof was firmly fixed in place.
Given the choice again I would undoubtedly go for another roadster - as late a plate as possible as successive engine upgrades were made throughout the car's lifecycle.
I would thoroughy recommend either - unfortunately I've had to move away from a 2 seater for family reasons and bought myself an IS-F.

To be honest with you, looks wise the coupe has it. For driving experience, either!
Best to get over to www.350z-uk.com to have all your questions asked though.
If you like wind in the hair motoring though go for the roadster.

How many threads do you want to start with exactly the same title?

Surely the main concern is the image?
Always makes me laugh this one. Maybe the OP likes convertible cars? My last three cars have been convertibles, and are driven all year round with the roof down. I couldn't care less about image, it's about wind-in-the-hair motoring. Maybe some of you should get out of your metal boxes every now and again and see how much fun it can be without air-con and heated seats.

A very brave start for someone so new to the forums.Mikeyboy
Mr Gear is indeed right that we don't allow cross posting and the use of the search function is encouraged to prevent duplication.
