Discounts and scrappage
Discussion
My parents are looking at buying a Skoda Fabia by trading in their 200,000 mile 405 estate on the scrappage scheme.
The standard car drops from £9100 to £6600 (as Skoda's contribution is £1500).
Is the Skoda contribution separate to the dealer's profit? If so that suggests they should be able to shop around for a discount.
Does anybody know how much room they are likely to have? I'm wondering if they can get a towbar included or something similar though if part of the contribution is from the dealer this is rather less likely.

Bought a passat on scrappage with the full vw scrappage incentive along with 10% off, so the dealer discount is deffo separate, 6600 sounds rather a bargain though, try a couple of car brokers and if you can better it all good, otherwise grab a car from your local dealer as quick as you can. Your old car will never be worth as much as it is now!

Thanks. They put their order in today. There wasn't a discount available but I guess Skoda tend to keep the list price low and discount a little less than some of the other manufacturers.I didn't test drive it but the Fabia appears to be a decent little car and definitely worth the extra over the Panda and Koreans. The only other real contender was the Fox and possibly Polo. The extra doors and £500 for aircon swayed their decision; it's £1000 on the Fox. Personally I thought the Fox was funkiest with a nice quirky feel but the Skoda was definitely the better car and significantly cheaper than the Polo.
I think the brokers were only £100 or so cheaper and I think getting it off your local dealer is definitely worth the extra as it will probably come back in service. Especially as they provided the test drive.
