Unimogs - square cab models
Discussion
Anyone know much about them?
I've owned a couple of (very) old Mogs, both ex-military petrol s404's.
I've been looking at a square cab u1300L that's very cheap (6500+vat) but it looks like it has a fair bit of corrosion to the cab although mechanically is OK (according to the dealer). Not been down to see it/drive it yet.
The 1960's Mogs I had were very simple beasts and parts were relatively easy and cheap to get through a dealer in Belgium who specialised in NOS parts for the 404.
I assume that parts availability for the square-cabs is good from M-B but also assume they are hugely expensive.
Are panels easy enough to repair/replace? Looks like the wings on this one are both buggered.

Drop normalbloke on here a PM - he knows it all about these. He's pretty much rebuilt his one.

That looks like great fun - what are you going to use it for - Just fun I hope
Well, quite a few things. My next building project (the infamous West Wing of my barn) is starting soon so it will be used for moving building materials.
Also:
Snow plough or blower (probably plough)
Maybe a backhoe
Running a PTO-driven log splitter (I have one of these)
Running a PTO-driven flail mower (I want one of these)
The problem with the 1300 I have linked to above is that it has neither a PTO nor onboard hydraulics which would suggest an Ag-spec machine would be a better bet straight away. But I would need an LWB Mog for shifting sheets of timber etc and Ag spec Mogs tend to be SWB models.
Oh, one other use:
Generally arsing around offroad.
And, longer term, I want to build a workshop which will need it's own foundations. I may also consider leasing the machine out through my Ltd Co. Maybe.
If I'd bought a digger I reckon it would have paid for itself easily when I was doing the last building project, (I spent so much money hiring excavators.) So I'm a bit late to the party. But I still have plans for my land that will require a reasonable amount of earth moving.
Given how long we've been snowed in, the wife is also keen on the idea of getting something that will get us through 4 or 5 feet of snow when it happens again. I'm going to try and buy a Mog before she decides we could spend the money on something else. Or before I spend it all on whisky
Wow, you got some serious stuff going on up there fella.
I wish you luck with the vehicle search - sounds like a massive heap of fun as well as all the other more 'useful' stuff!
Just remember though, getting caught by the Mrs having tipped the thing over because you thought you'd 'Just see what it could do dear' - will probably make your next toy purchase all the more difficult

How big are these sheets of timber? Can't you build an extended platform on a SWB Ag Spec as this seems to be what you really need?
Or even just a cheapo trailer.
Ssshh, I don't want a trailer, I want a 'mog!Or even just a cheapo trailer.
Trailer no use as a snow plough either.
