If you had the choice of the three above, and it was to be your only car, which would you pick and why?

I currently own a Gallardo, but its proving to be quite hard work day to day and I can't really justify running two cars. I also don't use the car for work, so its just purely for everything else. No commuting.

You have a gallardo but can't justify having 2 cars?

I can't afford a new push bike and have 3 cars....and they're all sh*t.

Man up. wink

Yeah basically. I don't do enough miles to justify insuring/taxing/servicing two cars. I very nearly bought a £150 punto the other day to either use for skip trips, shopping etc.. Or to MOT and sell on.

The insurance quote I got for that was over £400. For a sub £200 car! No thanks!

R8. The gallardo and gtr both have huge day to day running costs and are hard charging cars where the R8 is an all round car with minimal running costs.

My personal preference would be the GTR but that is because I am deeply, deeply in love with it.

They were scared you'd reverse into your gallardo on the drive hehe

I've spent some time in a GTR, and it's an immensely, amazingly good car. Very practical (huge boot) - though probably bigger than you'd think - but nevertheless, very good. But ask yourself if you would miss all the extra stuff that comes with supercar ownership; the photos, the girls chatting to you at petrol stations, the "nice car mister" etc. etc. You still get it a bit with the GTR, but nowhere near as much as the R8 or Gallardo!

Out of the 3 I'd stick with the Gallardo, but the R8 (especially new V10) may well give exactly the same huge smile on your face smile

On a serious note then, if you want something a little more practicle and a one car solution, it has to be the GTR.

What a great problem to have! Personally I'd have a TVR Sagaris and a cheap van/estate car. The cheap car would pay for itself if you consider the milage, wear and tear, etc a good car will take when you're using it as a run-a-bout

4 seats and the performance would be nice. But would I miss the excitement of the Gallardo? I've heard the GTR is a bit normal to drive unless you're really pressing on..

As for the R8, the budget wouldn't stretch to the V10 unfortunately. I'd hopefully find a highly spec'd V8 though

How many miles do you commute? I know lots of people run 2 cars but I don't see the point unless the 2nd car is something like a Radical or a Caterham. I buy cars to drive not to sit in the garage.

If you can afford any of those cars, you can afford to run a second (cheaper snotter).
If you don't use it for work, how is it hard work day to day ?

Funnily enough, when buying the Gallardo, the other car I considered was the Sagaris. I decided against it purely because I had just owned a T350 and didn't think there was a £20k difference between the two.

Again, the second car would probably just sit about, maybe get used once or twice a month. I know I would pick the toy at every available opportunity. The amount of times I really NEED a second car are minimal. Like I said aswell, I don't need to drive to work, so all my miles are social.

Nipping to the shops etc can be tricky, and having such a small boot doesn't help!

Andy - The reason its hard work is, I'm scared to leave it places, it won't go into multistorey car parks, I can't go pick up bits and bobs for the house from B&Q (need a new strimmer etc).

You can't go anywhere in it without getting stopped to answer questions.. I shouldn't moan really as I do love it.

I don't commute at all. Exactly my thinking aswell, I have no need for two cars. I do maybe 200 miles a week.. Roughly

I'd go for one of these as a car that does everything but doesn't attract too much attention: GTR, 997 Turbo, M6, Jaguar XKR

Get a Passat Tdi for the shopping trips to Tesco and B&Q etc.
Then a Sagaris for the fun.

Alternatively, just go out for random drives in the Gallardo to make more use of it.

Bit of a personal question so you can ignore it if you like, but if they want 400 to insure a punto, how much are you paying to insure the gallardo? :S

997 turbo is another good idea.

I think its because the punto would have 0NCB against it, as I'm using mine on the Gallardo policy. I pay £1600 a year which is pretty good for my age I think
